Press Reviews
Noah Enelow of Listen.Com has this to say….. "In the rigorous world of contemporary music, Lanman's proving himself a contender." ------------- "As a student at the University of Texas, Anthony Lanman studied composition and classical guitar. Writing everything from intense piano pieces to pristine guitar solos to polyrhythmic mallet percussion music, Anthony has distinguished himself as one of the country's leading contemporary classical composers. Recently commissioned by Duo 46, Lanman will be featured on their new CD. Playful interlocking melodies and passionate phrases are abundant throughout. Urgently recommended!" -Riffage.Com ------- "For a concert closer, (Jan) Harrington and the chorus interpreted Anthony Joseph Lanman's "A Hymn to God the Father," composed to words of Ben Jonson. The composer used choral counterpoint to very good effect, not just niftily dividing the choir but inserting solo passages for sopranos and countertenor. Surges of tone, mergers of lines, and outbursts of wild rhythmic combinations marked the piece, one of the afternoon's most mature musical essays." -The Herald Times |
