Artist History
Chris Antonik is a blues/rock guitarist from Toronto, Ontario. His style has borrowed from a variety of influences ranging from Eric Clapton, Duane Allman, Derek Trucks, Carlos Santana, Dickie Betts, Buddy Guy and many others.
During his student years at The University of Guelph, Chris became heavily involved in the vibrant Guelph music scene, frequently jamming with B.B. Kings longtime friend, the legendary blues man Mel Brown.
Upon graduation in 1999, Chris moved to Toronto and began The Chris Antonik Band, a blues/rock outfit that played the Toronto scene and recorded one album. With the help of friends Eric and Bryan Prince (of the up and coming power pop band Boyces Road), Chris was able to use this band as a vehicle to get his name around the Toronto scene.
In 2000, Chris joined The Beggarz, a local band that played original, Rolling Stonesy, open tuning, blues/rock. This band acted as a fantastic way for Chris to further expose his soulful and succinct brand of lead guitar to even wider audiences. After playing numerous gigs around Southern Ontario, and receiving radio play on St. Catharines 97 Rock, the band received a feature article in Niagaras Pulse Magazine. A subsequent gig at the Niagara Grape and Wine Festival in the fall of 2001 included a surprise appearance by Canadian rock superstar Hugh Dillon of The Headstones, who sat in on lead vocals. In December of 2001, upon wishing to explore different musical avenues, Chris and the band amicably went their separate ways.
Chris has also played shows with The Jon Raven Band (Jeff Healy did some of the lead work on the album, see www.jonraven.com). One of these shows included a showcase at Torontos legendary Silver Dollar Room for the prestigious 2002 North by Northeast Music Festival. As well, a weekly jam with members of Staggered Crossing at a Toronto venue allows Chris to continue to play with some of the finest musicians around.
The Fire Numbers, the sonically unpredictable side project that reunites Chris with Eric and Bryan Prince, also manages to rear its head once in a while. Current work includes a new blues band and various studio work for different artists.
