Artist description
Well, you've asked for them, and here they are! I am dogsounds (www.dogsounds.com). But many of you have asked to hear some of my early attempts at music, when I was teaching myself how to play and how to record and mix music. And because of that demand, here they are in their embarrassing glory! I think I have come a long way since these recordings were made - check for yourself at the dogsounds page! These recordings here, grouped under a working name, "the blowfish experiments", were all made over twelve years ago, when I hadn't got a clue what the fuck I was doing. I have dug out the old 8-track master tapes, which were worn, dusty, corroded and altogether a bit soupy, and carefully digitally remastered them, removing as many of the clicks, wobbles and dodgy bits that I could. Unfortunately, as the tapes were pretty bad, the finished remasters still sound pretty poor with noise, clipping and the like, but you should have heard the originals! When these were made, I was still exploring possibilities, trying lots of different things. Most of these are pretty crap, a bit cheesy, but all part of my learning experience. Most were recorded over ten years ago on a cassette based 4-track, some of the later ones on a reel-to-reel 8-track. Be kind, as I was a kid, didn't know much, and was really just having fun. Oh yeah, and there is lots of poor timing - but that's because there was no sequencing in ANY of these tracks.(some of them were just sketches anyway, or test runs.) This page is really just for interest, a look behind the scenes to see what brought me to where I am today. Some of the tracks herein have been since resurrected and will appear in the new dogsounds album "kokoarrah", but you'll have to wait and see! Remember to check out my GOOD modern stuff, all recorded digitally ( no tape!)at www.mp3.com/dogsounds. Please see the "song story" section for the history of each track. Keep it soupy! |

Artist History
the blowfish experiments was the embryonic face of dogsounds. The recordings show my earliest attempts at recording, mixing and synth programming, from over 10 years ago. Boy, have I got better since then! Experiments, as I didn't know what the HELL I was doing, and blowfish because it's a great word. Now I am a man, have abandoned such childish things, and am dogsounds. |
