Artist History
I'll leave this up to the media. The sound has progressed from the beginnings in 1997 through the signing with Cleopatra Records in 2001 and has gelled into what can be described only by those below:
"Melding rock and electronica, goth, trance and pop, Pure Drama draws strengths from diversity and solid songwriting" Catalina Soltero - Westword
"A heightened level of sophisticated and emotional alternative rock" Kim Owens - Kaffeine Buzz
"Nuanced, understated and unlike practically almost everything else, Pure Drama is an exciting disc rife with promise for the future." Vic Tanner - Go-Go Magazine
"I am utterly smitten. I would say I was even rendered speechless. . . I hope to hear a LOT more from this band." Anthony Flores, Starvox Music Zine
"9/10" Jay Barbarich, Decoy Music Zine |

PURE DRAMA: "SELF TITLED" (DEMO CD)
Nuanced, understated, and unlike practically almost everything else in Denver, Pure Drama is a band successfully making a transition.
Originally appearing to be more of a goth/trip hop venture (whose inroads into that scene earned them a spot on last year's Cleopatra Records Marilyn Manson tribute album) this talented Denver three-piece is now a quintet, with the addition of new members David Ferguson and Chris Cardone, and a polished, capable purveyor of low-key, low-fi sensibility. Trip Hop, yes, but without the self-referential snarkiness so prevalent among many in the genre. Definitely worlds beyond the simplistic gloom-and-doom boredom that passes for modern goth rock. Pure Drama is an exciting disc rife with promise for the future.
There are moments when the rock creeps in, where the vibe is more Joy Division than Moloko, but the velvety smoothness of the production makes it all slip by, like watching hardwoods melt into evergreens through the windows of a train bound West. Becca Gomez's occasionally plaintive, occasionally commanding vocals are the perfect front piece for the other four, who create a palpable swirl on songs like "Agnostic, Sometimes"
So who, if anyone, do we compare Pure Drama to, at least as far as Denver? There are other contemplative acts in town, and some very good ones - Space Team Electra and The Czars, to quickly name two - but none of them are quite the same marriage of technology and sensuality. If Pure Drama is any indication (and if over 70,000 plays on mp3.com mean anything) then we won't be able to keep them to ourselves for very long.
