Artist History
One day in "Dreamland", Nini walked up to a microphone and Les plugged in his bass... "Aziazah" is the result of their first spontaneous creation, caught on tape. Although placed in the Jazz genre, the song clearly defies catagorization. Yes, there are elements of jazz as heard in Nini's phrasing, truly demonstrating the concept of "voice as instrument", reminiscent of the jazz improvisations of Al Jarreau and Brazilian jazz artist Tania Marie. Within the tight rhythm section, one can hear the influences of Jaco Pastorius, Vernon Reid and Nile Rodgers, coming from Les. Nini and Les are a unique combination and "Aziazah" is the kind of song that will uplift anyone who can "find the 1". |
