Artist description
PRODUCER, MUSICIAN, MULTIMEDIA ARTIST- FUNKYG. Bring his many varied musical tastes to a musical ambrosia. A strong admiration of "The Man from Minneapolis" drove Leroy to write, produce, and pursue his own interests of making music just for the sake of making it. For years he honed his skills and watched the industry. Trends come and go - but great music never goes out of style. FunkyG brings just that. Good music. Sampled instrument sounds- or an occasional drum loop but NOT sampled songs!!! Playing the music is extremely important. "The industry today is bombarded with samples. That is cool because it allows the original artists to get some notoriety again and make a few $$$. But how creative is it to just take someone else's creation and just drop some new hooks on it??"I am more impressed when an artist replays the classic track..and adds his own flavor to it!! Now that shows creativity!"FunkyG's main axe is Guitar, but he feels at home on the BASS, SAX, and on keyboards. "I am not a piano player- but I can groove on synths. I use the keyboards to write and sequence all the parts." |

Artist History
FunkyG started playing sax at age 12 in school band. A cousin and his band director were both bass players- and so he graduated toward those instruments. But it was another friend who had a classical acoustic that he did not know how to play that got FUNKYG started on his main instrument GUITAR. "His mom told me that if I could play it- I could take it." He had never even held a six string. but picked it up and started playing basslines, single string melodies. She felt it was better than she had heard the friend play. So she let A young Leroy keep the guitar."I still have that guitar!!" FunkyG later graduated to electrics - developing an ear for the funky rhythms of FUNK/R&B/SOUL music and all the stylings of PRINCE. It was not until he joined the NAVY that he discovered his other main guitar influences Jimi Hendrix/Stevie Ray Vaughn. Over the years he took those guitar skills around the world and jammed with some of the finest musicians on the planet. But he never stopped writing..and managed to develop some engineering and production skills and in 1996, started working with other artists. |
