Artist History
Half A Dog formed in Sheffield, August 1998, from the ashes of two local, going-nowhere, punk bands. Initially kicking out covers by the likes of Therapy?, Terrorvision and the Foo Fighters at friends’ parties, they were spurred on by the hot reception they received. The band then started concentrating on their own original material, changing directions in the process from a grunge/punk band to a speedy hardcore/punk/thrash/whatever the hell you want to call it band, incorporating the melody driven metallic punk of ‘Lesion,’ the funked up hardcore of ‘Sometimes,’ the hip-hop thrash of ‘Excessive Love Hermit,’ and the immortal 2000 miles an hour general insanity of ‘Gibbon.’Their first gig on March 5th at the Grapes went down a storm, as the band stole the show from the more established acts ‘3rd Rail’ and ‘Elektracloud,’ and as a result were heralded by the Star as the ‘first ever band to cause a full-on moshpit in the Grapes’ (as this venue has seen just about every band to come out of Sheffield for the past 30 years or so, it’s quite an achievement for a first gig!) Fuelled on by this success, they arranged to record three of their more popular tunes on a mate's 8 track, being too poor to afford a proper studio! Sometime later, the band brought ‘Smell The Buddha’ out of the closet, to an immense reaction from everyone who heard it, despite its shortcomings in the sound quality department.Following a fairly heavy gigging schedule in the past few months, Half A Dog are now preparing to enter the studio in the New Year (a proper one this time!) to record the follow up to ‘Smell The Buddha,’ and plan to continue playing as often as possible throughout the country. |

Press Reviews
"An in yer face rock racket, with blistering tunes - Full Chaos Guaranteed!" - Star Bar, Sheffield. / "Half a Dog has the unique way of blending eerie vocals with the rawness of punk and the heaviness of metal. I can honestly say that Ihave never heard a band that I could compare them too because they, refreshingly, have a style that they can call their own. Keep your eyeon this band, they have the potential & determination to rip the airwaves and take the world by storm!" - Cherry Pit, Ohio |
