AN INTERVIEW WITH ERIC STONE, SINGER/SONGWRITER/SAILOR

Q. Where is your home port?
A. I live just on the outskirts of Nashville, TN. where I moved to from Florida 5 years ago to pursue a song writing career. I was born and raised on the Texas Gulf Coast not too far from Galveston.
Q. How did you get started in your musical career?
A. I contracted Mono (the kissing disease) haha in the 6th grade. I was homebound all year. My Mom played guitar and, out of shear boredom, I picked it up and the rest is history.
Q. How long have you been in this business?
A. Professionally since 1985 when I graduated High School. Most of the time also having day jobs to fill in the financial gaps.
Q. Who or what influenced your music the most?
A. No one person influences me the most. I have a very wide preference of music from Classical to Rock. I love all types of music. My passion is writing story songs. I like to put people in the frame of mind that they actually feel they experience what I write about. I use lots of visual references. Jimmy Buffett certainly played a great deal in the direction I go with my songs. He is a true storyteller and I hope one day I'll be thought of the same way.
Q. What type venue do you prefer?
A. I prefer places that are open with outside decks. I love playing on the water whenever possible. My days of smoke filled honky tonks are over mostly. I love the outdoors. If they have a deck and a PA system, I'm there!
Q. What are your goals for the future?
A. I want to get signed again to a song writing deal and get some cuts commercially. I hope to continue to sell CD's with songs that I write and one day get nominated for a Grammy. It may be wishful thinking, but I've always felt that if you fail to plan, then you plan to fail. Think big!
Q. How many CDs do you have to your credit?
A. My first CD, "Songs For Sail" is available many places on the web.
The second CD, "Before the Fire," is a live recording and is only available via MP3.com.
My newest CD, "Dream Vacation" is due to be released March 30th, 2001.
Q. Is there anything you would like people to know about you?
A. I'm the Official entertainer for Sail America Boat Shows (Sailamerica.com) My new sponsor beginning January 1st is Mount Gay Rum (the sailors' rum) as well as Latitudes and Attitudes Magazine (www.latsandatts.net).
I also want to thank everyone who bought my first CD and supported me on this great Millennium tour. This has been the best year I've ever had and I've made tons of new friends.
Billy Peoples at www.billypeoples.com

You can order this stress-relieving CD today directly thru www.boatsongs.com
|
