Artist History in 1990, a church in youth culture was started by ichthus christian fellowship at the brown bear pub in deptford, south-east london. the aim of the church was to provide a safe environment where young people could discover jesus for themselves and experience church in a way they could relate to.inspired by the ground breaking work of groups like the nine o'clock service in sheffield and the late late service in glasgow, ian mizen and andy pressdee, who were part of the brown bear church, began to write songs that expressed their worship of the creator god in a way that didn't alienate those from a non-church background. the organ that was suceeded by the acoustic guitar gave way to a drum machine and a 4-track! those early songs became my soul thirsts for you, and brown bear music was born. to know you followed in 1994 and in 1998 bbm secured an international distribution deal with alliance music for the third album amazed. although the brown bear (now known as the bear)remains the home of bbm, they are regularly invited to lead worship at events such as spring harvest (1997, 1998, 1999 & 2000) at the r:age gatherings), they've had support slots at london's brixton academy and Birminghams' NEC, been seen on the bbc and on channel 5's alpha zone and travelled to denmark, france and germany. worship is not about style or technique but about jesus. it is the vision of brown bear music to welcome the presence of jesus wherever they go and sell a few cd's too!
