Press Reviews
New band goes Beyond the ordinaryThere are times when I get a CD from a band and tentatively throw it in the CD player and wait to be blown out of my chair by over-the-top guitar riffs and screeching vocals, so you can imagine my overwhelming relief when I played the CD I want to tell you about this week and found myself playing it several times and thoroughly enjoying the nine original tracks contained on the disk.So just who is the band that recorded the CD that has reaffirmed my faith in indendant local recordings? Its name is Beyond and its self titled debut CD is well worth a listen. Pete Vanderveen: vocals, guitar, synthesizer, piano, harmonica and percussion and Jamie McCready: bass, vocals, percussion and guitar are the musical force that drives this amazing collection of original tunes. Together they took on the writing duties and performance on the CD which for a first effort has a very polished and professional sound. It is evident these two fellows have an abundance of musical experience between them that they have brought together in this collaborative effort. Pete and Jamie got together two years ago and began writing and fine-tuning the tracks for this CD. Their effort and dedication really show through. They took their music to Randy Solski who put together the initial recording and then Pete and Jamie put all the finishing touches on the final product. Now that the band is back to a three peice format with drummer Ted Balazs on board, Beyond is looking to take their sound from the studio to the stage. Their live show consists of 50 percent original material and 50 percent cover tunes from a wide variety of bands. Keep an eye on this column for upcoming gigs. So if you are looking for a great CD to add to your collection with just the right mix of rock and easy to listen to vocals be sure to contact Beyond at it's website for all the how to purchase information. I have a feeling we will be hearing a lot from Beyond in the very near future. By Robin Sweers for the Brantford Expositor |
