Artist History
Steve Clisby’s reputation among his colleagues is one of uncompromising artistic integrity. He has had the pleasure and privilege to be creatively associated with some of the top names on the international music scene - being involved in the composing, producing, singing, playing, live performing and managing of his own products, as well as those of many of the top artists of Europe and America. Born in Riverside California, he studied piano - his first love - and saxophone, from the age of 7. He continued his music studies through high school, after which he left America to expand his knowledge of the world of music. The age of 21 found Steve living and working in Paris and Barcelona for a year. Having been sufficiently impressed with a budding European music scene, he decided to go home, put a band together and come back to Europe to take it by storm. The band American Gypsy was born in 1971 and became one of the premiere live R&B bands on the international scene. This quality of funk, fun and R&B could not be found anywhere in Europe. American Gypsy worked and recorded for 15 years as a major force on the international music scene. A year in Spain, Germany, Italy and several years touring England and the continent gave Steve a well rounded view of just how the international music market worked. Discovering the hard way that music and business very seldom go together, but must co-exist on some level if one is to survive, he set about the task of learning the ins and outs of the international music game and studying record production. Settling in Holland, then the musical gateway to the rest of Europe, he started to make a name for himself as a producer, singer, songwriter, and sometimes mentor to up and coming new talent. Steve has worked for the last 5 years in cooperation with Charles Graham to form a new and dynamic production company, CG-Productions (CGP). This has resulted in hits and co-writes for Steve with some of the major names on the international music scene, and a new CD soon to be released on the CGP label. CGP also owns and operates one of the most musically advanced direct to disk studios in Australia. Steve is sharing his talent and experience with many up-and-coming artists on both the local and international scenes, and also hosts a weekly jazz "showcase" for CGP at Chinta Ria, one of Sydney's latest venues that is helping to discover and feature new talent. Creativity, and positivity are the driving forces behind Steve Clisby and CGP. Without a doubt we can truly say in 1999, Steve Clisby has finally arrived. Co-writes: Earl Brown (Hot Chocolate), Jackie Rawe (Michelle Gale), Cooly D (Def la Desh), Omar Dupree (Band of Gold), Ashley Ingram Desire(Imagination) and Micheal Narada Waldon. Recent Facts: Supported Tina Turner throughout her 1996 European tour. Wrote the song "Golden Ring" which appears on the latest Neneh Cherry album "Man". Toured with Chaka Kahn, Kool and the Gang, Crusaders, Mothers Finest, Level 42, Hot Chocolate, Santana, James Cotton Blues Band, Charles Lloyd , Frank Zappa, Taj Mahal and Tina Turner.
