Artist description
Rene Lapalme is one of the most interesting lyricists to come out of Quebec in a while. With his command of the language (namely, French), his passionate vocals, his intriguing stage presence and unusual repertoire, he gives us deeply personal shows, which can be both hilarious... and haunting. |

Artist History
Rene Lapalme first performed in 1993.
He did a few shows a year at first, building
his repertoire and writing new songs. He was a semi-finalist as the Festival en Chanson
de Petite-Vallee, one of Quebec's most prestigious
music competitions. In 1999, he organized and hosted cabaret evenings held
every week at the Cafe Sarajevo in Montreal.
In 2000, after the end of his run at the Sarajevo,
he decided to try to turn the cabaret evenings
into a larger project. It was a difficult
experience that finally came to nothing. Exhausted,
wondering if he would go on singing, he took a long
(too long?) break and slowly gathered momentum,
appearing only in a few benifit evenings.
Finally, in 2002, he was part of a group show
that reaffirmed his desire to sing and perform.
He is now writing again, preparing to appear
in another group show and getting ready for a new
solo performance, something he hasn't done in many
years. "I wonder what it will be like, after so long.
My voice has changed, so has my style... I have a feeling,
too, that I'll be truer to myself than ever. We'll see..." |
