Artist History
The Pendletones are a four-piece rock band from that hot-bed of music activity, Starkville, Mississippi. The band was formed as a studio project in early 1998 by two long-time friends and members of a local punk group, Kaiser Peas. These friends are Wyatt Funderburk, who is the songwriter, lead vocalist, and guitarist, and Steven Fazio, who is the lead guitarist and vocalist. In its first incarnation, the Pendletones frequented the Mississippi scene as a two-piece acoustic guitar and vocal group. In the spring of '98, Wyatt and Steven planned a studio album that would release the Pendletone's music from the restraints of a two-piece, acoustic format. They funded the project themselves and chose Fred Garnet's Cheeseland Studios in Starkville to record it. Wyatt's catchy melodies and Steven's 80's metal-influenced guitar style, mixed with Fred's studio advice and three, long months of work, resulted in ten songs that would appear on their self-released debut album---forty-nine percent---in October, 1998. Since Wyatt and Steven recorded all the music on the CD, they invited two of their friends to play with them at live shows. David Winton, a friend of Wyatt's, joined the group as bassist, and Doug Tice, a long-time friend of the duo, filled the drum seat.Following the release of the album, the Pendletones played a series of shows in and around Starkville. During the following summer, they toured the Southeast with a new drummer, Issac Gardner. Since then, Wyatt and Steven have moved to Nashville to continue their music studies at Belmont University. |

I think [the Pendletones] have a lot of talent and potential." - Larry Livermore (founder of Lookout! records) "It's a great CD. [Wyatt], you're a great songwriter in your own right. You certainly are in the know as far as being able to compose a pop melody the right way..." - Pat Kim (guitarist, lead singer for The Beatnik Termites)"I absolutely love it.." - Cliffy Huntington (the Huntingtons) |
