Maximum Rock and Roll #230 - July 2002
REDENCION 9-11 - "97-01" CD
16 tracks of political/emotional hardcore from Chile. The songs are hard
hitting but also have quite a bit of complexity on all fronts. In many
respects, this reminds me of an early Ebullition release. You've got the DC
inspired guitar driven parts, frequent time changes, the occasional spoken
bits, the drawn out "screamo" vocals; but most importantly, you really get a
sense of overwhelming effort on the part of REDENCION 9-11 to convey what they
stand for. Impressive Record. (SP)
V/A - "Think Globally, Act Locally Vol. 1" 45
This record is actually a split between REDENCION 9-11 and HOMAGE TO CATALONIA.
Both acts are lyrically leftist and resistant to the current power structure,
but couldn't be more different musically. REDENCION 9-11 play fast manic
hardcore that just rages. HOMAGE TO CATALONIA play straight up folk that would
never even rate a mention in MRR, regardless of the lyrical content. REDENCION
9-11 makes this a great one sided punk 45. (JF)
