Press Reviews
Press Release For Bruce Barton's solo release "The Upside of Down", November 18th, 1999: Bruce Barton has just completed recording a 15-song collection featuring him on acoustic guitars, bass and vocals. Bruce Barton is best known as the guitarist/vocalist for the Washingon DC based band "Bottle." Bruce is primarily an electric lead player/vocalist and was looking for a change of pace/break after "Bottle" finished promoting its last disc "Scare Factor." He decided it was time to record a solo acoustic disc. The idea came about for an acoustic disc because most everything Bruce writes, starts out on the acoustic guitar and only about 25% of what he writes ends up a on a band CD. Bruce has been praised over the years by press and radio in the US and Europe as a writer/musician/performer and is looking forward to shopping/showcasing "The Upside of Down" as a writer. Musically "The Upside of Down" incorporates a timeless song writing approach concentrating on multiple textured straightforward melodies (classic rock inspired w/new school twists here and there) and complementary solos. The original working title was "Self Empowerment in a F***ed up World" but was changed to "The upside of Down"...it still gets the point across, but it doesn't offend nearly as many people. Lyrically the disk offers up an optimistic point view in an otherwise world gone bad, for the most part. Bruce has a longer list of things he won't write about than what he will and it's this type of scrutiny that produces his (thought provoking to some...out there to others) lyrics, intentionally off the beaten path. BACKGROUND Bruce's band "Bottle" has released two critically acclaimed CD's with a sound that offers up a dynamic blend of heavy groove, hard edge, funk and alternative styles with influences from ranging "Metallica," to "The Red Hot Chilli Peppers," to "Neil Young," to "Hendrix." Bruce has recorded and performed for the past 13 years. |
