Artist History
Started in 1995 as 6-piece group, gradually forming extra limbs and a theatrical show with too many bodies onstage, costumes, props, backdrops and an outrageous sound. Got too pricey, restricting and incomprehensible. After much experimentation, the years of '98 and '99 remained for the most part, unfruitful. After the honor of playing Danny Elfman's B-day bash, THE FRATELLIS return from a two-year hiatis (finding our moniker belonging to about fifty other bands now) with a driven, eclectic, raging, but still outRAGEous sound. With a smaller body count, the visuals are dropped and the theatrics found soley in the music. New stuff is on the way... |

Press Reviews
"This large band plays material that is a mix of many different elements. Aside from the basic rock influences, there was a strong big band sound from all the horns. As for the songs themselves, they all seem to be set pieces for stories and props on the stage. One song involved a child putting away her toys in a toy box, with a giant toy taking revenge on her. Another had something to do with a ghost woman kidnapping a baby and a detective trying to help the mother and getting turned into a spider for his troubles. All right, it may sound weird, but the material worked... sort of like a psycho-drama. The Fratellis' performance is a cross between the early days of Oingo Boingo, when they were still a performance art group called The Mystic Knights Of The Oingo Boingo, and a scene from Laurie Anderson's film Home Of The Brave, where, in the middle of singing she tangos with William S. Burroughs. Throw in the Sid and Marty Kroft-type costumes and you have a vague idea of what The Fratellis' performance is like." - Music Connection /March '97 |
