Artist History The Message Tree marks the culmination of a decade long song-writing and soul-searching quest for Shi’s founder and visionary Christina Isabel ("Isa") Webster. "Shi" - Isa's principal vehicle of musical expression, pulls together accompanying talent as needed, according to Isa's often stringent sonic requirements, resulting in an ecelectic palette of sounds which always draws local aclaim. Isa has a knack for pooling some of the best players wherever she is located. For the past decade she has lived nomadically, writing from the foundation of her experiences as an artist and passionate environmentalist. After shooting her first music video (for Armed and Ready) in 1994, she put down roots in Arizona and began dreaming of releasing a completed record. While continually working toward the completion of her vision, Isa has been an ardent supporter of soil reclamation and the integration of living food dietary practice into daily living. In 1998 Isa was drawn to an expansive and magical property near Sedona, Arizona that sprawled beneath the clouded peaks of the Mingus mountain range… and, with the help of her array of skilled production assistants, The Message Tree LP was finally completed. Consisting of twelve tracks, the album contains choice musical performances by long-time collaborator / co-writer Frank "Spider" Jacob, and co-producer Robi (Banerji) along with guitarist/bassist Cory Williams. The Message Tree aims to capture the imagination of the broad-based listener-ship of the new wave of female vocalists. Isa’s dreamy, quixotic vocal style grant all of Shi’s songs an ethereal quality which contrasts with their essentially guitar-driven atmospherics; prompting one producer to label their work "mellow edge". Principally inspired by the writing and art of the Celts, Native Americans, Yogananda, Isadora Duncan, Nietszche, Kipling, Herbert and Hesse, Shi's musings integrate an otherworldly wisdom with a sonic alchemy that is as modern as it is powerfully visionary.
