Not just to play piano, but to play piano on TV. My parents very quickly got me the piano I begged for, and I bashed around on that Wurlitzer until I began lessons at age five. They continued for twelve years.I did the whole school chorus/church choir thing, and -- you don't care about that, right? Good. By the age of 16, I was playing in bars, VFW halls, and street fairs around Streator, Illinois with a cover band called Apyron.Over the past thirteen years, I have performed in various bands that I won't mention here since you've never heard of them anyway. G-Men was my first original effort, formed circa 1991. We were very crunchy, guitar-based post-punk noise with lots of screaming. After three years of playing clubs and colleges in the Midwest, two cassettes, and one CD, G-Men came to an end when I became interested in performing the more melodic, atmospheric material you'll hear on I'll Send an Angel.

Music BizIt's strange that such pretty music should come from a girl who rose to hometown fame in a punk rock outfit (the G-men for everyone who's keeping score). But Chicago native Lisa Brandt is spinning a different tune with her four-song demo, and that tune is more along the lines of Portishead or early Cocteau Twins. Songs like "I'll Send An Angel" have that hauntingly beautiful Enya feel with a touch of Patsy Cline torchsong mentality. "Strange Feeling" continues in Brandt's smoky lounge feeling in the vein of artist like Sinead O'Connor...Brandt's vocals are beautiful and shine throughout.Jim Santo's Demo Universe, August, 1998http://www.demouniverse.com/Hauntingly beautiful music from ex-punk rocker Lisa Brandt (formerly of G-Men). "I'll Send an Angel" starts this demo off with an easy groove and a gorgeous, Enya-like vocal that dwells somewhere between Nashville and the Swiss Alps. "Strange Feeling" is a slinky torch song a la Portishead, with a nifty string-bending guitar hook. "Change" is not much different, but enjoyable nonetheless. I had a little trouble with Lisa's club remake of "In the Air Tonight," not because I have anything against the genre, but because it lacks any surprises. Still, she's got a great voice and I'm sure the track would go over well at more conservative houses.College Radio Music Review, August 1, 1998brianb@wcnet.com / SlackPub@aol.comThis tape arrived in January, but got lost in my pile of mail. Let me apologize to Lisa for the delay. This four-song demo tape contains three originals and a cover. Yes, Lisa has come a long way since the G-Men (reviewed in the November 1, 1997 CRMR). Sounds like she's grown up. This work has an ethereal, peaceful quality. I really liked the original "I'll Send an Angel," as well as the cover of Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight." I'm looking forward to the full-length CD from which these songs are taken.Illinois Entertainer, May 1998, p. 74http://illinoisentertainer.com/A perfect upbeat contributor to any future edition of the Heavenly Voices CD sampler series, Lisa Brandt lilts and emotes to wonderful effect on her self-titled four-song demo. Her melodic, pleasant take on pop features a full acoustic guitar sound augmented occasionally with a hint of strings, but it is her voice that is the star here, shining brightly on "I'll Send An Angel" and "Change." Brandt even ventures into dance territory with her cover of Phil Collins' "In The Air Tonight." Don't be surprised to see her name on the bill of a not-so-distant Lilith Fair.--Gina McIntyre
