If you haven't heard of him yet, you'll be up on stage with him by the end of the night. The Skinny What began as entertaining friendsin the dorm at NC State University has become a career for localcountry rocker John Dupree and his band. Dupree, who picked upthe guitar in college, began his musical career by playing coversongs from Garth Brooks to Bare Naked Ladies at local clubsaround Raleigh with his buddy Brendan Howes. A few gigs later, crowds were jumping up on stage to sing-along with his own songsincluding the rock laced "You Love Elvis" and his signature ballad"She's Gone." Dupree and Howes added two other players to formthe band, Travis McCann on drums and Tony Anaya on bass. InFebruary 2000, Dupree released a self-produced CD, "JohnDupree," that's available at local music stores. The band, whorecently opened for Edwin McCain, is in the process of recording anew CD in Nashville. —Christina Holder (recently published at http://triangle.citysearch.com)
