Press Reviews
FANFARE MAGAZINE The real question is, does he add anything to the party? My answer is an unqualified yes.The changes in texture that the piano reveals in the cello solo and the orchestral score aresignificant and illuminating, and Baker's execution of this projects vibrant and technically assured. It is rather startling to hear the vertical pulse of the orchestral music for the concerto on the piano, rather than the linear flow of the strings, but it underscores the superb sense of architecture and texture that can be taken for granted in the orchestral version. Baker precedes the Concerto reduction with his own brief homage to the composer, a sweet and idiomatic tip of the hat to a larger than life musician, as is, for that matter, this whole production. |
