Artist History Down Cycle plays an alternate kind of heavy rock: dark, moody and aggressive but also sentimental, emotional and melodic. Consisting of Mike Bonavita (lead vocals), Robert Bruce and Chris Nolan (guitars), Todd P. (bass) and Barry Knain (drums), the band came together as a result of multiple jam sessions that simply grew in their intensity until they became full-fledged rehearsals of original material for a new band. Down Cycle's first release, a seven-song EP titled "Breathe This Life" was issued in June of 2000 by 3rd Floor Entertainment. Red Eye distribution also then stepped in with wishes to distribute the CD throughout its' network of music retailers. "Breathe this Life" immediately began making an impact locally winning Down Cycle opening slots for Limp Bizkit and Wind-Up recording artists Finger Eleven and has sold over 1000 copies to date.

Press Reviews DOWN CYCLE - Breathe This Life - November 28, 2001 Author: J Sherrod Though this CD came out in 2000 I still felt the need to review it because, let’s face it, IT KICKS ASS!!! Anyone who remotely likes TOOL will love these guys! This CD sounds much like Undertow by TOOL both musically & professionally. Damn well recorded and the songs are tightly put together. I recently voted Mike Bonavita as best NC vocalist because of his tone & style of singing. Very passionate and emotional with a ton of energy. The vocals on track seven, “Seep”, reminds me of Mike Patton on FNM’s album Angel Dust. I love it! This is a seven song CD and for me to sit here and pick apart the songs would take far to long. Breathe This Life is intense and excellently recorded. All I can say is I praise this CD & the band for makin’ a damn good contribution to the NC metal scene.
