    Press Reviews
CD Review by Tim J. Nelson ? Music Monthly - Regional Reviews November 1998 issue, page 28.Bill Dickson and Company (Musical Think Tank) have produced a fine record that, to use Dickson?s words, "is a celebration of life and living." "Givin? In" and many of the songs have a pop up-tempo feel with Bill singing introspective words ? the formula seems to work. The MTT studio musicians, Chip Butler(drums), Mike Gottleib(keyboards) and John Grant(guitars), guarantee that the music is clean and sharp. Dickson sings, plays guitar, bass, percussion and even handles most of the background vocals. The songs range from soft-rock to pop-rock to acoustic ? think John Denver, Men At Work, Peter, Paul & Mary ? and are quite original. "Fossils" is a song about optimism, materialism, and the need for personal validation. This "search for answers"Theme continues as a thread through most of the songs, which ring with a spiritual quality."Companion" is a song about a love renewed: "I realize you are there. This isn?t a dream. You are what you seem. A constant companion for me." Dickson does a lot of soul searching in this project and listeners going through a similar period will be inspired. In Our World could be a Christian Rock album, the celebration here is Life itself. My favorite is "Reason" with its organ-guitar riff and Grand Funk Railroad-feel. Overall,This is a good record, not an unforgettable one, but a nice effort.CD Review by Shawn Reynolds...Fatfingers Music and Entertainment GuideReynold's Whack page 8 Feb 99 issue. All Right, first things first. MTT stands for Musical Think Tank, not My Toy Turd, as I originally thought. It became pretty clear that was not what it meant once I listened to it. I guess I shouldn't have said that, because I don't want readers to mistake that as a description of the music. I'll have to make a note to edit this part out before it goes to press.Musicians hate for criticts to compare them to other musicians, but unfortunately it's the quickest to get from point A to point B. Okay, I'm just lazy. Sounds like Lowen and Navaorro mixed with Crosby, Stills and Nash with some lyrical help from Evan Dando of the Lemonheads. It's a great sound with lots of good rhythm acoustic, making it impossible not to sing along. Now that I pulled out all the stops, I don't know where to go from here. I guesss this is why musicians hate when you compare them because you end up with a shorter review.I can't understand why songs like "The Letter", "Our World", and "Minutia" do not get constant airplay. Solid songwriting doesn't get any more solid than this. Yet we were forced to endure Mr. Mister endlessly in the eighties. All right, sometimes they sound like Mr. Mister, but in a good way. Damn- me and my mixed messages! "In Time " CD Review by Mark Bounds ? Tracks - Music Monthly Nov. 1996 Bill Dickson and his Musical Think Tank ? In Time ? Okay, I gotta admit that the first impression of this CD is the front cover, upon which, Bill Dickson?s mug is predominately plastered. ?Oh look, Michael J. Fox put out a record,? I say to myself. However, upon further investigation I find that In Time contains musical strains that make me rethink my cynical stance?well sort of."Peace On Earth" leads off the festivities, and the initial thing that becomes obvious is Dickson?s vocal delivery. It?s incredibly similar to that of Air Supply--and that?s not all bad, I guess. (Truth be told that particular brand of middle-of-the-road-pop-delivery dotted the Top 40 charts on more than a few occasions in the ?80s)"In Time" follows suit, and its soft rock structure almost made a believer out of me! John Grant is to be applauded at this point, thanks to his Steely Dan-styled lead guitar fills though-out this cut, and the majority of the album for that matter?smooth and utterly sensational!"Talk", "It?s Over", "The Voice In Me", "Think About Them", and "Revelation" all offer more of the same patterns based on Dickson?s beliefs. And without offering an opposing view (as I?ve been known to do), lets just say that Contemporary-Christian music has gained a worthy new entry. What?s more, even though the album is full of anecdotal convictions, Dickson is able to avoid the self-righteous slant that often restricts this kind of material to a preaching?to?the?choir audience.
