Artist History
Jan Cechticky and Dusan Lipert previously played in Prague guitar bands Sebastians and Colorfactory, Jan Klenik was a guitarist of the Prague group Hyena Family, and Charlotte sang with the London band Wubble-U. Jan Cechticky also had supporting roles in feature films Whisper (dir. David Ondricek, 1996) and Buttoners (dir. Petr Zelenka, 1997). Ohm Square were formed in 1996. The same year in October they released a single ("Pillow"/"Colored Post") on the Prague-based Mr. Cucumber label, next Spring had their first gig at Prague's Roxy Club. When they met Nicolette during her stay in Prague, she seemed to like their music so much that she put "Pillow" on her DJ-Kicks compilation (!K7, Feb. '97), alongside Roni Size, CJ Bolland, Doc Scott, and Plaid. In November '97 came out their first album Ohmophonica, re-released a year later in Germany. Ohmophonica was voted by readers of the Czech monthly magazines Muzikus and Rock & Pop "Album of the Year '97". Basic tracks of their second album Scion were recorded in Prague, the final mixes were made in London with assistance of the renowned producer Duncan Forbes (Spooky). Some Ohm Square members occasionally release odd recordings as The Tchendos. Ohm Square's tune "Pillow" remixed by Bassface Sascha as "Elements" appeared on his album Different Faces (CD/3LP, Mole Listening Pearls/UCMG 1999). Jan Cechticky wrote a score for the movie Eliska Loves the Wild Life (dir. Otakaro Schmidt, 1999), and recorded the soundtrack with other members of Ohm Square. |
