Press Reviews
I immediately thought of the offspring when I heard you guys.I like them and you guys are pretty cool too.Production was pretty good,I like your vocal style,Reminded me of the guy from Green day.Revelation was my favorite track. The intro was very cool.(Jeremy)I actually liked that(tintin) track!Jackson(milo's machine)Punk rock city! This stuff is killer. You guys remind me a lot of the Clash pre London Calling. Great lyrics, great singing. Lots of attitude in all the right spots, and a thunderous drum sound. Super fast punked out guitars bring it all together in one hell of a rocked out mass. Super work, guys. Thanks for submitting this. I needed some punk on here. I'll be adding "A School Of No Beauty" to the station.(kalisto 9)Hard and Heavy and in your face right from the beginning, this band are musically tight the song itself is quite hooky, I love the hats when the drums are going full flow and the guitaring is very punk, Glen Matlock would be proud!on (are you afraid?(no connection)It sounds to me like you're playing punk music as it should be played: fast, simple, and with some catchy hooks (at times, at least). You get a plus point for your titles; Tin Tin... is quite funny (a small tip: put up your lyrics on your page!!!). And it's not bad to start off with a "Greatest Hits"-CD either. The production, engineering and mix is quite good, or at least appropriate for this particular genre. The same goes for the vocals on (tintin was an anarchist)(elegie) punk rock with a capital PPPPPPP, I liked it, nice hook, flies by, good playing. The drummer misses a step every now and again, but with the proliferation of programmed drums on MP3.com, its refreshing. Cheers Boys! on (tin tin was an anarchist) (MarkMcInerney)(Tin Tin was an Anarchist) - Been a while since I heard some really different punk - I guess its mainly because punk is punk and thats that. You probably have a different view on that, of course. But I though this song carried over well, not anything particularly different, but something you could drive the car to (at high speeds of course). You definitely have a punk style voice though. A School of No Beauty - Nice drive to this song, the "Offspring"ish backing vocals are kewl, and I can hear some Pennywise here as well. The ending is abrupt and thats great. I liked this one. Are You Afraid - I think this has some good chord changes and a good-time feel that I could drink a beer (or several shots) to. Americans Out - Yeah hardcore punk here. But I liked it. The energy alone kept me banging my head. Short and to the point, too. Yeah good stuff here. My fav of the bunch. Though I dont normally listen to punk, I can enjoy it sometimes. Your music has a rough edge thats actually good, because so many punk bands are overproduced these days and it sounds like shit. But this stuff is good slammin root-punkrock. cheers! Ego...TinTin was an Anarchist- interesting, fun, great little joke with the fifties pop tune melody, however its almost the same exact song as the Ramones Sheena was a Punk Rocker. not bad though and i cant really complain too much about you guys being unoriginal cause your punk,You sound like if the Ramones were political(dennisObrien)'Tin Tin was an Anarchist' Mmmmm, a punk bad. You don't hear too much of that any more. At least not straight punk. Guitars sound a little bit like Stiff Little Fingers, vocals well they're like punk vocals. The break was good,Pretty good(gordon_bell I'm not much of one for punk, but I liked "Revelation" mostly. What made the tune work for me was the second guitar part varying the regular thrashing. It was all *fun* stuff though! (Raph) listened to Tin Tin was an Anarchist, good punk song, it was a cool song (Cryptic) I chose this (Are You Afraid?) one because the description called it melodic punk, and I'm a sucker for a good melody. Well, the melody was all right, only had a 4 note range to it (throughout the whole song) though. I couldn't really understand most of the lyrics, as the vocals were buried in the mix and they don't have them posted on their site. Ironically, the background vox were louder than the main vocals. The band is pretty tight: wicked drum work, and cool bass and guitar work. I liked the silliness and laughter at the end of the song; made it feel very human.Stylistically, it reminded me of the Sex Pistols ... yep, it's definitely punk. (Carlin Joie) This(Tin Tin was an Anarchis) is true punk, the arrangement is a parady of the 50's. Original punk was a kind of parady of pop music and culture. The singer has a sort of Jello Biafra quality to his voice. This is very much in line with the Dead Kennedy's but I think it leans a little more to "The Ramones", which is what I think you where going for. You might even consider putting in some doo whop's in there somewhere just for kicks. The reggae ending was a little ubrupt and out of character, but so is the style. This (School Of No Beauty) is definately from the Dead Kennedy's school of punk. Really fast and driving. Another group this one reminds me of is D.O.A. The talking parts seem a little buried, love the background vocals and the big shout at the end. The drummer is definately busy, 2/4 at that tempo takes a lot out of ya. I personally like this (Revelation) one the best, the production is a little better on it as well. Vocals are much more where they should be in the mix. I started laughing at the end. You might try and even be more sarcastic in the vocalization or go the other way and do the whole Henry Rollins thing, like "Black Flag". I think the sarcasim suites you better. This group is true punk, not the slick glam boys that sell millions of copies of horse hockey. I enjoyed this band a lot and definately will be downloading.(Scott Kern) Certainly punk (A School of No Beauty), but more melodic and absorbing than most I've heard. I like the vocal effects, and I appreciate the lyrics. I like the guitar on this(Are you Afraid) piece. It also has a very pop-like feel. Overall, the whole thing works way better than it seems like it should. Very nice. Slightly repetitive, but still lots of fun. Tin Tin was awfully cool... (theme album blue) I think it (Tintin was an anarchist) has all what’s needed to be a good song in this style, it’s even longer than usual punk songs which makes it more interesting. (someone i forgotten) I used to be a big fan of Dead Kennedys when I was at school, just a few years ago (!). This(A School Of No Beauty) reminds me slightly of them - unsurprisingly. The nice thing about punk songs is the fact that they are short and to the point. Yours are of no exception. The drummer is quite good actually! the patterns you are playing are quite hard to pull off all of the time - I was impressed anyway. - as a punk song (which it is) I'd give it a good 3/5 - and I kinda liked it myself. Nice one - keep em coming. This(Revelation) leads in brilliantly from the above song. Nice lick and the vocals are slightly clearer here. Score? 1.5/5 (for the tune and the riff! - rewrite the lyrics man!)Overall - I was surprised. Your music is good. It doesn't come with any preconceptions and when it's cranked up - it kicks ass. This is joining the select few from MP3.COM on my driving tape. Consider yourself in a minority! Keep it burning ! ( Ian Simpson) Haha! I love your CD title - you guys have a good sense of humor. You guys got lots of bad reviews? I thought your songs were cool, in a B-movie kind of way... I downloaded "Tin Tin Was an Anarchist" and "A School of No Beauty." I'll review "School" below. It does sound like it came straight out of Offspring catalogue. The drums and the guitars provide good energy, and the melody is catchy. The production is - well, bad, but in a cool punk way. Gotta love thesloppiness and attitude of punk, and you guys are doing that very well. The speaking part toward the end is also nice touch. Well, what else can I say about punk music? "Perfect execution" is not a goal here. You guys have good energy, fun attitude. No originality, either, It was a fun listen! (ari) ARE YOU AFRAID? Hmmm, after hearing this(ARE YOU AFRAID?) up-tempo, drum hammering, guitar smashing song, no! Sounds like you're all having a blast. I liked it! (RhondaWatson) Tin Tin was an Anarchist Likes: Shit-kicking classic punk! Chainsaw guitars, woofer strangling drums and bass and a perfect "who gives a shit!" vocal style Intimate recording - felt like a club Revelation Likes: Straightforward mod-punk feel, high energy playing and vox There was a relentless little razorblade guitar hook running through the whole thing that made the tune for me ( Are You Afraid ?) Likes: Really melodic old-Brit tune with lots of punk-flash guitar playing Excellent contextual lyrics and singing Nice rythmn change in the middle eight FUn ending - felt like being there Bottom Line:Good stuff. Captures the feel of 70's punk without getting maudlin.(jeez)You fuckin' punks, what are we gonna do with you! Jesus, I was laughing at the end of the(A SCHOOL OF NO BEAUTY) song. Especially the very last shout, it really got me. I gotta go for this Chant- Punk song. Reminds me of me (several years ago).Highly Recommended.(David Hayden)The(Tin Tin Was An Anarchist) first punk I've listened to today. What do expect from punk rock? 4 chords (and maybe 4 more chords) ... some sort of hook ... and sloppy vocals. This song has all of them. The background "oh"s on the chorus are out of sync, out of tune, but nevertheless quite endearing. They seem to emphasize the punk-ness. The hand claps are a winner, too.Rather run of the mill pop-punk,*** (of 5)Americans OutThe title of this one got me. Being a band from Singapore, I had to see what it was all about. Unlike "Tin Tin Was An Anarchist", this one has a decidedly non-American sound to it (the vocals that is). This brings up an interesting point: if you're going to sing in English, why do it with an American, Midwest accent? (is that like no accent?) The British accent is part of what makes The Clash and Sex Pistols so appealing to me. And for non-punk stuff too...like Pet Shop Boys. Or how about Shonen Knife? So even though I couldn't hear what was being said, I know it was said with energy. That was cool. Love the Oi! Oi! at the beginning. A+ for the pick scrape too. **** (of 5)(PookeyBleum) As punk rock goes (!) this( School of no beauty) isn't too bad, reminds me a lot of the Offspring....maybe the lyrics stand out from the mix somewhat. (nick sherman) Nosecandy, hello again guys, I did review you guys before perhaps on one of your other threads or mine (we're Center Mass)anyway I took a listen to Americans Out (being that I am one) gotta love the punk, great energy in this one, it looks like you guys have more tunes on here since I reviewed you last, thats cool, can't understand the vocals well though, let's go to Revelation, cool intro man, like the guitar, good drumwork, cool anthemlike tune, Revelations is one of my favorite Iron Maiden tunes, keep the heavy stuff alive over there in Singapore man,( basthoven) I downloaded Tin Tin was an Anarchist and was pleased with the track. I was hoping for it to sound like early British Punk and I wasn't disapointed. This track reminded me of The Clash, especially the guitars. The vocals are tight and the structure is basic, but very effective. There isn't enough Punk on the scene at the moment so you guys are very welcome.(Brookstein) Nosecandy - this is THE NAME OF NAMES!!! So Punk never dies! You guys have done your homework!! I listened "Tin Tin Was An Anarchist" and it totally rocks! Sounds like a meltdown of Ramones/Sex Pistols/Green Day.(tkay)This is it man this is punk shitty recording no talent well some talent, Out of key back ups and that sound that will keep any A&R man out of your shows. I like it . This is what is all about. 7 out of 10 man good job! (buc) Nosecandy - had a listen to ARE YOU AFRAID because quite frankly, I was - there was no need to be however - for this was just good old fashioned punk.....I certainly like the quality and musicianship, this is one of the hardest genre's to produce technically. (Danny K)A School Of No Beauty Nothing like a 200bpm thrashing to clear out the old sinuses! This punk stuff is fun! I'm reminded of Dayglo Abortions... Instrumentally, this piece is riveting. You HAVE to pay attention. It's fast, furious, and right on target! Machine-gun like! Vocally, it's lackin a little, it's pitchier than I'd like, and rhythmically, they fall a little behind. I know it's SUPPOSED to be loose, but not THIS loose. Cool tune overall though, I moshed in my chair! Not bad for an old fart jazz guy... 8.3 of 10 Tin Tin Was An Anarchist Oooh, a little rhythm trip coming into the 1st verse. Oops. The guitar overdrives into clipping... I really enjoy this guitarist, and everyone instrumentally. Good, solid playing, only a few timing issues. Vocally, the diction could be clearer when you're spewing this many out... The production is a bit overdriven, bass heavy, and muffled on this. Tempo is all over the place, and it doesn't sound delibrate... Cool touch with the handclaps at the end... weird ending, in a good way!! 7.5 of 10 Are You Afraid? More muffled production. Drummer's meter is MUCH better here. Same great crunchy guitar work. You guys have a great combination of sounds. Lead vocals are totally buried, and VERY pitchy! Bring em UP!! This one is the strongest songwriting of the 3 I've done. 8.0 of 10 Overall Impressions Been a long time since I heard punk, and this is good punk. Just a few production foibles, and mild meter and rhythm issues. but nothing to really moan about. A very enjoyable change of pace! Strap in and enjoy the ride! Cheers!(phil traynor)Originally posted by Flame Box:Hey! I'm going to tell Nosecandy they stink!I listened to 'A School of No Beauty'... and it rocked, dude? It's like a freakin' bunch of pop in a funkin' bunch of punk and stuff! It's horriblenessity became evident like a mouse might become evident! If you ignore all the great things about this song, there's not a whole lot there!I loved the semi-spoken words near the end, they reminded of a speech by Spock... which brings me to quite an important point: where is Spock?Work on it dudes:your score: 6.54 out 6.832--------------------------------------------------------------------------------I'd also like to say that I love it a lot, and I heard all your other songs too, and they all get approximately 88.205 out of 88.87NoseCandy- DL'd A School Of No Beauty- Nosecandy- Great, great vocal control. You're right on the top/bottom of the notes, bending pitches now and then- takes a great deal of control and energy to make this ragged, almost off, raw sound come consistently out of your voice. You'll probably wind up trashing your throat in another 3-5 years though- Like your stuff- always wind up thrashing around when I listen to it and scaring everyone. Ah well.(pamela)Nosecandy I listened to "are you afraid"Just sitting back enjoying some NOSE CANDY.....that doesn't sound very pleasant. But NOSE CANDY does! Great job! (Stewart Reynolds)Although I liked the song, it is exactely what I am talking about here as far as bad production.I did like the song, but this is a good example of a band that needs a producer(Jameswoody) Good punk guitar melody, decent hook. but..."you're gonna die"....(musicexe) these are christian pop songs with spoken bible verses. Theyre good (Hot Wet Biotch)(bandradio.com)If punk is what you're into this will work nicely "Tin Tin was an Anarchist"Not bad. Minimalistic, Very old school style punk, vocals kinda sound like Mike Ness. Sounded like it was done in a garage, good work gentleman. "Americans Out"Nice work, Could do without the "oi oi" but otherwise rockin'. Keepin the guitar chords simple, just a bunch of rockin' noise, keep it up! Getting a download! (i forgot who he was)Cool name, decent melodies. If you want fun punk give em a listen(drjaywalk) "Americans Out" Political singapore punk band screaming what I assume is anti-imperialist lyrics. Awesome awesome band. (Postmodern Redneck Anti-Imperialists Unite! Radio)"A School Of No Beauty" fun punk contingence (ILL MOB MENTAL GOODIES)"Tin Tin was an Anarchist" Old Skool.Ahhh.. Memories..... (RandomRadio Radio)"Are You Afraid ?" This is the band that really got me looking into the Brian Deneke story. Really good stuff. (sticking 2 kickin the facts Radio)Nose Candy is a great name for a band, this band has the most awesome home page, check it out...! (ToiLeT's UnDeRgRoUnD RaDiO) |
