Artist History
After the duo, Sue and Savory, split up, Sue Minsuk, lead singer and guitarist, sought out a songwriter to help her move forward on her own. Fortuitously, her ad was answered by Malcolm Brooks, the primary songwriter for Moving Violations.Kathy Blackwell, backup chick, violinist, and mandolinist toured with a small chamber group throughout the East Coast, as well as participatingin a recording with jazz great Anthony Braxton. Inthe late summer of 1994, her old friend Malcolmconvinced her to join Sue and him in his garage and play some songs - just for funKen Goldman, drummer, guitarist, occasional backupsinger, joined the band in 1995. Previously whiletouring with Sugarbeat, he shared the stage with the likes of Nanci Griffith and Shawn Colvin at various festivals throughout the country.Malcolm brought these three strangers together in his little garage in San Francisco's Sunset District. He has been writing songs - forever. He was looking to find the right combination of talent to deliver these songs. His determination was a major force in the creation of Moving Violations. |
