Press Reviews
WINNERS OF THE FIRST ANNUAL WWW.AMP3D.COM BEST UNSIGNED BAND CONTEST. Band of The Month (Oct. '00) @ The PimpRockPalace (www.theprp.com). PRP's write up: "Eighth Ground hail from Austin, TX but their name already reaches much further a field thanks to their strong internet fan base. Churning out socially minded songs, the band have found themselves labeled politicore and musical comparisons can be made to Fear Factory, Meshuggah, Sepultura and Rage Against The Machine. Taking on all these influences and still sounding fresh and relevant is what sets Eighth Ground apart from their contemporaries. To date the band have released "Demo '99" and "NewWorldOrder/SameOldLies" and are about to release a new full length titled "Omnipotent Mechanism" which is certain to make labels sit up and take notice."; Our review from listen.com: "Screams of personal and political struggle are given even greater urgency by crushing, raised-fist riffs. Straight, mid-tempo rhythmic assaults are the vehicle for Eighth Ground's desperate appeals." E.Lurker; Album reviews, taken from Wickedland.com: Eighth Ground - "New World Order/Same Old Lies" Rating10/10 "FUCK YEA!!!!!!!!!!!! Eighth Ground is off the damn chain. Nuthin but great songs on this 8 song D.A.M CD. Let me describe it for you. Lyrically- think if Chino Moreno and Corey #8 had an offspring, this is what Jacob G. sounds like, a little rap, hardcore screams, obscenities wherever you turn (which just adds to the attitude), and some melodic singing. Guitars also sound a lot like Slipknot but there is only one, and shows a little more skill. Drums and beats are normal pace, heavy at times. Bass is good. Back to the vocals (the best), Jacob screams like there is no tomorrow. I mean he screams like he is in a hardcore band. The style is Slipknot enduesed with Deftones, SOAD, FF, and Meshuggah thrown in. What also sets this band apart is that Eighth GrounD is a politicore band. They are a young band but bring up great problems, and have excellent views on the world. They leave SOAD and RATM in the dust. Songs that stick out in your mind are "Problem Reaction Solution", "Burner", "Soften" where the chorus goes, FUCK IT FUCK IT FUCK IT FUCK IT FUCK IT FUCK IT FUCK IT FUCK IT FUCK IT, FUCK IT YOU'LL TAKE IT ANYWAY!!!!, the others are all kick ass too. Another interesting fact, they are friends with Powderburn, and like Powderburn, they hail from AUstin, TX. I know a lot of you like Powderburn, but guess what this is better. So for G-d's sake buy this!!!!! It cost $6 or $7. BUY THIS CD AND JOIN THE REVOLUTION, THIS IS THE BEST NEW BAND OUT THERE NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!!!! JUST FUCKING BUY IT!!!!!!! peece to all"-AbitZ69@hotmail.com. Eighth Ground - "Omnipotent Mechanism" Reviewed By: abitz69@hotmail.com Rating: 5/5 "First of all, I would like to give a huge thanks to the guys in Eighth Ground for sending me this. and also for making the greatest cd of the year. OMNIPOTENT MECHANISM is a follow up to the incredible NEW WORLD ORDER/SAME OLD LIES. o.m. features 8 songs, all of which are totally amazing. The vocals of Jacob have taken another step up in the intensity level. More screaming and just over all power. Jason's guitar has become even more strong as well, taking on more difficult riffs, brutality and melody, both blended well, fast and slow, everything. The bass (played by Roger) sounds a lot like the first, very noticable, and introduces and puts in the music more than bass usually does. John on drums still lashes out great, incredible head-banging beats, that fit the singing and music so well. Collectively, they have created the greatest monster of all. I guess i forgot to mention this, if you dont already know, 8g is a politicore band, incredibly smart and know what they are talking about. Their music is loud and furious, but it does at times get real slow and soft, which is just awesome. There is truly nothing wrong with this band. They will never sell out, they will never go soft, they wont change, they are the best. Omnipotent Mechanism is a step up from new world order/same old lies, just better (who thought it could be), and if you are a fan of nwo/sol, three songs return in a different form, being: bleed before (Burner), fbi kills kids (problem, reaction, solution), and a quiet war (culture war). () being what they were on nwo/sol. My picks are Bleeding Eye, Shade, and Omnipotent Mechanism. But i love all of the songs. If you have not picked up nwo/sol yet, GO GET IT, and then download the songs from o.m. and wait for it to be released through them at www.eighthground.com or www.mp3.com. Thanks again guys for this copy, you guys rule forever. peece" |
