Artist History
The band's original line-up consisted of Irna Libowitz (vocals), Jan P. Muchow and Jan Gregar (guitars) and Petr Wegner (drums) with occasional guests - John Moore (guitar), Misa Klimkova (various instruments), Colin Stuart (keyboards), Vladimira Jestrabova (flute), and Katie Hecker (percussion). Their first recording was a mini-album Pigment (1991), followed by Susurrate (1992). After recording a John Peel Session at the BBC London studios they released three CDs on Free Records label (division of Go!Discs), the Free-D album being produced by Guy Fixen (Laika). In 1996 Ecstasy changed both style and personnel - only Muchow remained, and the new members were Petr Machacek (keyboards), Petr Nemecek (drums), and Katerina Winterova (vocals). At present they perform live as a duo only - Winterova + Muchow. After five years, on May 31 1999, the long-awaited album In Dust 3 (EMI Monitor) was released. Its working title was Sounds From the Years of Silence. Muchow also wrote scores for two feature films - Whisper (1996) and Loners (2000), both directed by David Ondricek. |

Press Reviews
This is certainly a release that will appeal to a lot of people, whether they hail from the industrial, electronic, indie, etc. camps... Found this under the "Ambient" section in a local record store, but it's definitely not ambient in the typical synth-wash/nature sound samples category. "Acoustic ambient?" Something like that. Practically all of the rehas many "real" instruments throughout. Cellos, flutes, etc. Coupled with many exotic synth sounds (watch out AFX!) and some thunderstorm noises towards the end of the disc. When you first pop in this disc, you instantly think Slowdive met the Hafler Trio in an opium den or something. Vocals fade in and out (they're the dreamy, incoherentSeefeel variety) but there is never anything to "hold on" to. The music is totally unstructured, like a huge ambient jam session. However, nothing ever comes off as being token or thrown in to get that typical "ambient" effect. At any rate, this is definitely one of my favorite releases of the year - I believe it even tops Seefeel. Definitely unconventional. You won't find much on this disc you've heard before... If you like the Orb, Horizon 222, My Bloody Valentine, etc. you won't regret this purchase! Jon [Gerald Wenzel] on Free-D (Original Soundtrack) |
