Artist History It's difficult to pin down a musical genre that could accurately describe the look, feel and sound of the band that confidently claims it will be on the front lines of modern music in the new century - colorhouse!Wes McWhorter (voices, guitars, bass, wurlitzer, et. al.) and Terry Derkach (guitars, soundscapes, bass, et. al.) established their songwriting philosophy over burritos and cervezas in San Francisco's seedy Mission District in early 1997. That philosophy was / is to craft songs that people can understand musically, relate to lyrically and be moved by physically. Nothing too complex - just complete honesty through music.After two years of separation (McWhorter in Austin, TX and Derkach in New York City), the two have reconvened in New York's East Village to pick up where they left off. With an completely unique approach that is both unassuming and sometimes quite stark and lonely, and by paying respects to influences as diverse as the Beatles, Flat & Scruggs, Emmylou Harris, Marvin Gaye, Peter Gabriel, Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, Nasrat Fateh Ali Kahn, Miles Davis and many more, this evocative and passionate duo are fabricating songs and vibes as rich in texture and heart as they are heavy in groove and emotion.McWhorter and Derkach know that what binds them ultimately is a love of music, a lust for life and the thrill of performing live (Arlene Grocery, Baby Jupiter, CB's Gallery, Electric Lounge, Steamboat 1874, Hotel Utah, Paradise Lounge)!
