Artist History
You could say Cost of Living is a hybrid act that fuses rock, hardcore, folk, and rap, but the sum of these parts is far more than just a list of influences. With each performance, the crowds grow larger, and more impressed. Tri-state area audiences are taking note of this innovative and dynamic group.
The sound is strong in groove, and not needlessly aggressive. Cost of Living is not the type of band that needs to turn up the volume to drown-out the lyrics. On the contrary, this band seeks to inspire its audience on many levels.
Each of the members is seasoned, prolific, and dead-set on the band's collective vision of large-scale success. Audible influences include The Police, Jane's Addiction, 311, Biohazard, and The Deftones.
Formed in 2003 by hardcore scene musician Christian McKee (formerly of the Dirty Muffs, Rest Assured), the band's sound is sometimes hard, sometimes mellow, and always intricate. McKee's stories of death, love, strife, and struggle strike hard with their brutal honesty and eager vocal delivery.
Sean Oates (formerly of the Dirty Muffs, Rest Assured) provides vocal accompaniment and first guitar, Brian Mathusek (formerly of Dirty Muffs, Useless) mans the second guitar, and drummer Andrew Gionotti (Hindsight) anchors the band with bassist Ray Grieco (formerly of King Chango, Sleep Station, Useless.)
Cost of Living is the best new sound in the underground. It's five storytellers relating a sonic autobiography that gets you off your feet, under your skin, and into your mind.
