Press Reviews
artist: TOXSIN album: Illusion label: MTM Metal/ SPV style: Industrial Metal release date: September 2000 new promising band straight out of Munich which offers a fresh and modern metal sound with German lyrics and a huge production Now this is a tough one to review. Not only that I'm writing an English review for a disc with German lyrics, also I'm usually not a huge fan of Industrial and Crossover Metal at all. So, I really didn't expect too much when I listened to TOXSIN's "Illusion" first a while ago and was really surprised. Musically, it's sounds a lot like RAMMSTEIN meets MEGAHERZ but it as well has some nice very own trademarks to offer. Besides the huge production, the structure of the songs and also the arrangements of the guitars and keyboard is immensively great and full of power. Lyrics - some of those are really great - with a message behind - but as usual the German stuff provokes that I'm really keeping more attention on them naturally than I do on English words and some of those are really pseudo intellectual as on "Gedankenspiel" or absolutely dumb as on "Höllenqual" for example...but well... As TOXSIN are a fairly new band it's also surprising that the songwriting is already very diverse and while listening the album over and over again you'll still discover something new. Some songs like "Illusion", "Probier's noch mal", "Hoffnung" and "Der Berg" (which has a fantastic groove) morely belong into the heavy up-tempo section whereas tracks like "Ich will" and "Stadt der Engel" also have their softer moments. As this kind of music of course belongs to the most popular stuff these days "Illusion" might become a big seller. The most suitable club songs would be "Ewig", the title track and "Der Berg" as they have the biggest grooves to offer and sound dance compatible. Fans of the above mentioned bands need to check this out but laso even me likes it and keeps spinning the disc over and over again. Cool stuff! |
