Artist History
Camped Out Record boasts one of the city's finest rappers and pioneer of New Orleans hip-hop. Tim Smooth released EP entitled "I Gotsta Have It" in early '90s. The record did extremely well and is considered a southern classic. After this regional success, Tim signed with Rap-A-Lot where he released his CD entitled "Straight Up Drivin Em". Tim went on to feature on several projects on the New Orleans underground label Big Boy Records. Big Boy boasted such names as Fiend, Mystikal, Black Menace and the Ghetto Twinz. Tim was teamed up with Mystikal and became his hype man and performance partner. |

Press Reviews
Suga Slim of Cash Money tells XXL that checking out a Tim Smooth performance enticed he and his brother into the business. When asked by The Source if he thought he sounded like Mystikal, Beelow said no and that was just his style, but that Mystikal at times sounded like Tim Smooth. Check out the perfomance of Tim and Mystikal on "Handle Yo Business" and judge for yourself. Charlie Braxton, contributing writer to Vibe, Rap Pages and other publications, described Tim in his article for Grooveline Magazine as "New Orleans' Master Teacher" and goes on to state that after laying the foundation for the likes of Fiend and Mystikal, Tim Smooth arises from the shadows to claim his fame. Fiend tells Rap Pages that Tim taught him a higher level of showmanship. Carlton Wade in his CD review for Grooveline Magazine states that "with three independent releases under his belt, a legion of faithful followers and an open diary brimming with enough freaky tales to trade hoe for hoe with $hort Dog, New Orleans underground veteran mack Tim Smooth returns to the slab with Let It Be Written. Not relying on the traditional Crescent City bouncing beats and chantlike flow, Smooth glides over gangstafied bass grooves, 70's blaxploitation guitar licks and deep bottom organs with the ease of a super pimp. This kid is a true lyricist." |
