Artist History
Sodium, the newest addition to Universal Music Group genre of modern rock (Three Doors Down, Godsmack), is comprised of members Chad Warrix (vocals/ guitar), Kato (guitar/ vocals) and John Dick (bass/ vocals). With their initial single, “Alyssa Milano”, in heavy rotation throughout the U.S., they are gearing up for the follow-up single, “Anyway”. “It’s a song about addiction and seeing someone close to you slipping through the cracks and ultimately, never coming back”, says Kato. “It’s a look into the more serious side of the band”, explains Warrix. With their new single underway, Sodium continues to work on their forthcoming debut record, “The Octagon Missle Crisis”.
Prior to signing with universal, sodium released an independent record entitled “Words” which had a growing number of radio insiders listening and believing in their sound With “Words” having garnered a bit of national recognition with tracks heard on MTV (The “Real World” and “Undressed”) and Fox TV (“College”), the title track found its way into the hands of an independent film producer and became the lead track in the movie, “Face The Music.”. The band is proud of their initial work to date and lead vocalist Chad Warrix professes, “If we can’t reproduce it live you won’t hear it on the record.” That type of aggressive and confident attitude permeates every inch of this band.
Warrix, an ex-motocross racer, would still be tearing it up on the track if it weren’t for the two six inch titanium rods in his back spoiling it for him! “I had to give in and get the back surgery because the pain was becoming unbearable. You should see me try to get through security check points at the airport when I’m late for my connection. I set off every alarm I run into! I still get my occasional dose of speed with my newfound alternative for motocross, shifter cart racing! Just think 100 plus mph in a go-cart! Yeah baby!”
Guitarist Kato shares the same affinity for adrenaline as Warrix with his love of skydiving. “I remember my first lesson in jumping”, Kato recalls. “I had never even been in a plane before and some guys from work were into it so I thought, why not? After signing the waver of liability, I had the choice of wearing my jeans and t-shirt or a hot pink jump suit. We decided to jump at 13,500 ft. It started to lightly drizzle as we left the plane and I’ll tell you, without a jumpsuit and falling at around a 130 mph that rain felt like riding a motorcycle in a hailstorm. So I jumped out of a plane at close to three miles high, the first time I’d ever been in one. Should’ve won an award for the worst landing ever, laughs) but not bad for a days work, huh?”
Luckily bass player John Dick anchors and stabilizes the trio with his even-going and steady temperament. With a strong vision for the music, John is the rock that keeps Sodium solid. “I’m the guy you would call the mediator or even referee in some cases (laughs)”, says John. “Chad and I were roommates in college so I’ve known these guys for around ten years. He and Kato played little league together so you can understand the history that entails. It’s like a circus with those guys on the road (more laughter). You learn to sleep lightly that’s for certain.” In addition to playing with the band, John played collegiate soccer at the prestigious Belmont University in Nashville, TN. The guys describe John or “J.D”, as they like to call him, a creative, team oriented individual. “He’s the rock in our roll” says Chad, prompting immediate laughter and causing Kato to spew his drink out of his nose and mouth all over himself. Warrix gives an ecstatic “Yes!” to confirm his excitement of Kato’s dismay. A job well done, it seems.
