Press Reviews
NO make-up. NO eye-liners. NO lipstick. This is NOT a girl talk or a beauty consultation. I'm talking about the music of posh-mod alt-rock "Tapping The Vein". Watch about the glam and twinkles and be turned on to the individuality that exhibits no pretension, absolutely...no make-up. Just straight spontaneous natural alternativity. The erotic and fiery aura of this Philadephia-based rock act isn't just the way it is. It has a definite and unique passion for emotions and desires that could really point a finger to anyone. Maybe there's a bit of pop-rockish tunes stored behind their alternative backbone, but, certainly, there's a whole new adjective to coin this band. That's for everyone to find out, with Heather Thompson on vocals, Mark Burkert on guitars, Joe Rolland on bass and Eric Fisher on drums. You really have to be turned on by this - and get ready to be tickled while being poisoned. The EP "Undone" transfusing 6 deliciously red tracks to the listener presents a revelation of sexuality, well, sexiness too, sensitivity and a big ounce of urban attitude but not gutter. I just found a Cindy Lauper spirit trapped within the entire album shocking me wonderfully while she is being twisted in and out on a rock format. Imagine that. Well everything's left to be discovered. The themes might sound too be a bit dolorous or melancholic if we have to find terms suited for them. The interesting beat behind is so amusing to be found that everything's been packed up entirely on a truly addictive, naturally hip and stylish yummy pop-rock. The TTV EP album is everything from titles to entirety. Not a flat altmusic after all. Listen to "Beautiful", "Everything", "Bleed" and "The River" and you would have all the reasons to get emotionally interactive and aroused. Afterwards, I'm sure you're gonna check out who owns that intimidating yet fragrant voice. Is she some kind of a Mansonite or a Stefanite? Whatever! But we're talking about music that's simply FLIRTATIOUS yet SENSIBLE, SENSITIVE yet PROVOCATIVE, DEPRESSED but RELAXING, SWEET but POINTY, SUAVE, SEXY, COOL but isn't CRAZY. The accompaniments are just excellent contributions to this sugar piece. Get pricked by the powerful senses of the vocals that would lacerate you in the most unhurting way. Get your veins pumped up in and out with all those music xtasies and probably discover a stem of arousal. Tapping The Vein's set for a sensible marking tap, gonna put you under their sleeves and switched veins to communicate. Imagine that hallucination, well, reality even! Impossible? Well not. Give your ears so you can believe me. -Henry G Angeles, Deaththreats ezineTapping The Vein - there couldn't be a more appropriate appellation for a band with such an uncanny ability to draw raw emotion out of the listener and pull on it ever so gently until it stings. Dark and emotional keyboards seem to be driven by disturbingly intense guitars and ultra-gothic bass sounds. This whole package is then bundled up and sealed tightly with the vocals of banshee/siren Thompson, who I swear is possessed by the spirits of every tragic diva that ever lived. Her voice carries with it the magical ability to express the extremes of emotion. -Eden Salisbury, Universal Studios' Horror On Line------------------------------------------------------------------------ Melancholic pop rock with an attitude: it's the aggressive, yet seductive female vocals that give this band a compelling personality. All five immaculate songs on this cd have the potential of hitting it big. - Octavia's Alcove, Outburn ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- With the release of their EP Undone, Tapping The Vein continue their blending of Banshees-esque dark wave with crunchy, MTV-ready hard stuff and Garbage-y alt-rock. Led by vocalist Heather Thompson, a sort of Shirley Manson meets Siouxsie Sioux, it would seem theyre poised for bigger things. -Brian Howard, The Philadelphia City Paper |
