Formed in 1998, Motorway To Roswell has been called every type of genre possible from indiepop to emo-core to space rock. Coming from different influences, ranging from Sunny Day Real Estate to Radiohead to Primus, Motorway To Roswell's "raging pop" (as producer Chris Gibson describes it) conveys a sound that is so familiar, yet unlike anything you could put a finger on. A mixture of melodic hooks and teenaged angst - you wouldn't believe these guys were from Long Island. |

Artist History
After being saturated in the sea of rap-metal acts and boy bands, people are ready for something different. Perhaps Motorway To Roswell has the answer.
Motorway To Roswell. A hybrid of space-rock experimentation, driving emo-core and pop sensibilities, this band has been causing a stir in their hometown of Long Island, NY. To say that their sound is an amalgam of different genres is to state the obvious; what is more important is how unbelievably infectious their songs seem to be.
The quartet consists of Carl Esperance (vocals, guitar), Charlie LaRocco (guitar), Dave Anderson (bass) and Scott Ingenito (drums). Motorway To Roswell's emotion-packed songs are only amplified by their fierce live performances. Carving out a niche for themselves with other bands in the New York area, Motorway To Roswell hopes to bring catchy rock music back into the mainstream consciousness. Don't let their boyish looks and young ages fool you - Lisa Archambault of the Hofstra Chronicle wrote, "the moment they burst through the speakers, Motorway To Roswell make it known that they are to be taken seriously - that they are not just another local band."
Their debut EP, In Between the Frequencies, was recorded during the final quarter of 1998. A seven song CD, it provided an introduction to what Motorway To Roswell was going to be. Stevan Spacely of the Long Island Voice pronounced their debut to be "phenomenal.”
For their next studio venture, Motorway To Roswell turned to a staple of the New York hardcore scene, Chris Gibson, who has recorded such bands as Quicksand, Civ and Shades Apart. Gibson admitted that he has never recorded a band like Motorway To Roswell before, describing them as "raging pop" - a mixture of strong melodic hooks and teenage angst reminiscent of when grunge rock first broke into the scene. The album entitled More Than Ordinary was recorded at Upstart Studios and Gibson claimed without blinking an eye, "This is the most important release to come out of this studio." Strong words from a man who has been recording bands for more than ten years.
With More Than Ordinary gaining airplay on such stations as New York City’s 92.3 K-ROCK and Long Island’s 92.7 WLIR, Motorway To Roswell’s presence was felt and heard; earning them a spot on several music festivals such as Wilmington, North Carolina’s WEFest and the New Jersey based Independent Music Fest.
Signing with RevUp Records in June 2001, Motorway To Roswell returned to the studio to start on their newest album. Their RevUp Records debut promises to cause a gambit of emotions – a familiar sound, yet like nothing you have heard before. Motorway To Roswell is both simple and complex, confused and certain, angry and lovesick – or as Kate Donohue of Good Times Magazine referred to them as “a complete pop experience.”
