Artist History
Laurie K Lewis is well known in the Christian community as a praise and worship artist as well as a writer and performer of her own music. Laurie's life is a testimony of the power of God to change lives: "It didn't happen over night, believe me. I had been a hope-to-die drug addict since the 60's and if someone had told me that one day I would be telling people about Jesus, I would never have believed it...now it's what I live for!"Originally from Saginaw, Michigan, Laurie toured with Bob Segar in the early 1970's. She then moved to Chicago where she became a studio singer doing commercials and backing vocals for The Spinners. Laurie has also performed with the big band leader, Les Elgart, Chicago Jazz and the Celebration Road Show. She joined The Buckinghams in 1983 and they released an album entitled "A Matter of Time." The Buckinghams were featured on the 'Happy Together Tour' with The Turtles, Gary Lewis, and The Grassroots, playing to "Standing Room Only" (SRO) audiences in 125 cities and proclaimed one of the most successful tours that year by Billboard and Performance magazines. In 1997 she recorded an album with Gary Puckett entitled "Is This Love." She joined The Mamas and The Papas in 1986 and toured with them both nationally and internationally as a replacement for John Philips' daughter McKenzie Philips. In 1991 she was once again asked to join The Mamas and The Papas and toured with them for almost two years before leaving the group to pursue a music ministry. Laurie's first Christian album was entitled "Cool Waters."Presently, Laurie's music is heard all over the world. She is a featured performer with Mike MacIntosh and the Livingstones. Mike is the founder of Horizon Christian Fellowship in San Diego, California where Laurie and her husband, Chuck are part of the worship ministry. Laurie is also featured on "Oasis 2 Christmas" CD featuring Big Tent Revival, The Kry, Luna Halo, Terry & Nancy Clark, Gary Puckett, Glenn Kaiser, Limit X and many other artists. The CD proceeds help to support the world renowned Youth Crisis Hotline 1-800-HIT-HOME. Laurie is also the music teacher at Horizon Elementary School in San Diego, CA. and has over 500 students from kindergarten to 6th grade. |
