Artist description
Records music in detached building next to wiffle ball stadium behind house (when not barbecuing next to wiffle ball stadium behind house). Current obsessions include: the recorded works of R. Stevie Moore; the fractured, juvenile and Rankin-Bass-looking world of bendable figure misanthropy featured in leisuretown.com; 70's Japanese cars (particularly the Toyota Chinook); and Ultraman, Speed Racer & Battle of the Planets. |
|
Music Style
A fractured variety of classic pop-rock |
|
Musical Influences
XTC, Beatles, Guided by Voices, Partridge Family, Apples in Stereo, Jesus Christ Superstar, R. Stevie Moore, Schoolhouse Rock, Beach Boys, Owsley, etc. |

Similar Artists
Sounds like someone who admires: (a) the song brevity and lyrical obscurity of Guided by Voices; (b) the clever tunefulness of the Beatles & XTC and (c) oddball pop-rock in general. |

Artist History
KC Bowman logged cherished time in LAWSUIT and RHYTHM AKIMBO before releasing his solo debut, "Fresher Tin Villages" on Timber Trout Recordings in 1998. He also acts as curator of the rare-as-hen's-teeth PREOCCUPIED PIPERS CD's, a series of albums featuring oddball pop outtakes and experiments from the Lawsuit era. Voted most likely to do something strange and unsettling three years in a row at the International Pop Overthrow Festival. Contibuted songs to the compilation CD's accompanying the IPO festival in 1999, 2000 and 2001. KC Bowman is holed up in the newly relocated Timber Trout Studios, hacking out the next album. He lives in beautiful Oakland, California. |

Press Reviews
timbertrout.com has a few reviews to read - here are a few excerpts: "...what he has assembled here will make listeners dig out their "Best Of 1998" lists and sheepishly admit they missed one. Count me among them!" - Bill Holmes, Dr. Bristol's Musical Prescription. "This superb album is a heady collage of twenty tracks that mirrors Bowman's ambition and zeal for his art as well as his craft. Reminiscent of the ingenious art-pop exercises of Andy (XTC) Partridge and David Yazbek, Fresher Tin Villages showcases Bowman's deft ability with musical phrases and lush arrangements." - Kevin Matthews, Big O Magazine. "Fresher Tin Villages deserves to be a part of any pop fan's CD collection." - Claudio Sossi, Shake it Up!. "Fresher Tin Villages is a delight from start to finish that all fans of intelligent, carefully crafted pop will enjoy." - Stewart Mason |
