Artist description
One of California's hottest touring bands, Government Grown performs a unique blend of sixties-flavored improvisational jams with more modern rock and roll, jazz, and reggae styles thrown in for flavor. Their music combines tight, complex song arrangements with looser instrumental explorations. Government Grown has a high-energy sound that is quite different from many of the jam bands in the music scene today, with a heavy emphasis on a dynamic rhythm section. They have been generating rave reviews up and down the West Coast with their legendary live performances, which can go on for 3 hours or more and draw on nearly every musical influence and style imaginable, from heavy reggae to free jazz to powerful rock-and-roll grooves. Their newest studio album, "New Pieces of Clay," is a series of tighter, focused songs which distill the band's live energy into shorter pieces. The album is full of inventive yet memorable pieces that will appeal to listeners of many different styles. |
