    Artist description
"Industrial strength dream pop" - Steve Morse of the Boston Globe
    Artist History
After the breakup of Sirensong (for which Michelle was nominated a Boston Music Award for best female vocalist in 1995) she took a break and hooked up with Ang. They started writing songs with hooks and substance. Kevin joined in 1997 and with Bob Vogel on drums they recorded their first CD "the girl from lost and found" (released on Wasabi records) with the help of Roger Lavalle (Curtain Society). The band's recordings and live shows were well received around town and Curio is ready to take it to the next level with new drummer Carl Lindberg.

    Press Reviews
"Curio bears watching..." wrote Steve Morse of The Boston Globe after a recent live Curio show. "...Michelle Poppleton has the voice and the lyric-writing skill to go national." This "industrial-strength dream pop band", as Morse describes it, was assembled in 1997 by Poppleton. Bandmates are Ang Dickerson on guitar, Kevin Cassidy on bass, and new addition Carl Lindberg on drums. A full year in the making, Curio unearths an aching, sexy, modern sound, both beautiful and at times degenerative. "Michelle Poppleton may have the most exquisite voice in Boston" gushed the club program for Aerosmith's local club in 1995. With a 1995 Boston Music Award nomination for "Best Local Female Vocalist" to her credit, Poppleton has already been recognized as a serious talent in Boston and beyond. She received only shining reviews in her former dream pop band, sirensong, for her "raputurous" vocals, her "90's Piaf-like demeanor", and favorable comparisons to Sinead O'Connor. "True standouts were...Curio...not just 'cause of the breathy, [censored]-inducing female vocals..." wrote "The Noise" in June, of Curio's cut "02" on the 1999 NEMO Compilation. Bassist Cassidy, "The Noise" writes in the July issue, "propels these moody numbers towards the heavens", and Dickerson's "chiming guitar work...comes across as intricate but not flashy...a well-earned round of applause for these melodic minstrels".
