Artist History
Founded in 1994, the Chicago Brass Choir is now in its sixth year of existence. An ensemble of fifteen brass musicians, this group primarily performs in the Chicagoland area. Several members of the ensemble have been with the group since its inception. Musically, the Chicago Brass Choir maintains a focus on classical literature from the sixteenth century forward, but also includes works in jazz and popular styles. The Chicago Brass Choir is currently under the musical directorship of Dr. Michael Stewart, who joined the ensemble as a trumpeter in 1996. He is a published composer and arranger of over one hundred works of classical music, and teaches privately in the western suburbs of Chicago. The primary arranger and composer for the group, this is his third season at the helm. The 1999-2000 concert season will feature many new works premiered by the brass choir, as well as selections from their three compact disc releases (Pictures in Brass, 1999; A Mighty Fortress, 1998; and Chorales & Imitations, 1997). Also new to the 1999-2000 season is the appointment of Kelly Hawkins as our new Assistant Conductor. We also have completed the initial projects of the Chicago Brass Choir Recording Projects, in which members of the ensemble will be making recordings of original compositions and arrangements by private individuals. For more information about this project, as well as the group's other activities, visit our website at: http://www.chicagobrasschoir.com The Chicago Brass Choir is available for concerts and services in churches and in municipal settings. |
