    Artist History
The bio of yeltsin The journey of, the Eugene, OR based trio, Yeltsin began early this year when longtime compadres Jake Pavlak and Dana Axon began experimenting with singing and songwriting in Dana’s state of the art, elaborate & plush home studio. Both have been playing their instruments in different groups, together and apart, but until now rarely writing songs with vocals. While the first songs depended on lyrics stolen from Billy Joel album covers, they soon put together their own songs and were stunned to discover they loved them. The next step was to call drummer Jivan Valpey. This was a completely logical move as Jivan plays in every band in town and they reasoned why not theirs as well. Jivan flaked at first but soon joined the group when he realized that Jake and Dana would bring a bottle of Chateau Clos L'eglise (1998) to rehearsals. After only three months in existence the band has recorded a 5 song EP that is now available at finer record stores and at Yeltsin shows. Others have described the music as rock/pop in the vein of bands such as New Order, Gang of Four, The Pixies and Pavement. Yeltsin just knows they like playing it a lot.

    Press Reviews
Yeltsin performs rock and pop in the vein of The Pixies or Pavement with catchy melodies and smart lyrics. Eugene Weekly 9/25/03 “The band played that urgent music that vibrates your table and hums through your body, making you feel good and young and a little wild. The guitar player sounded like a forlorn Billy Idol, and the bass player looked like a guy from a literary editing class you took at the UO.” Eugene Weekly 11/13/03
