Artist description
When I was very young, around 2 years old or so, I played music with pots and pans in the kitchen. My mother used to love that. I don't know if I actually made any real music or just noise, though. Around 3 or 4 years old, my parents bought me a plastic recorder. I learned to play it real well, too.
When I was about 5 or 6 years old, I had an opportunity to play a real pipe organ at our church (St. Michael's Episcopal Church) in Brattleboro, VT, before the morning sermon. My grandmother was the church's secretary, so I could get in early. I was unable to reach the pedals or the upper 3rd manual. I played Greensleeves, which at that time was one of my favorite Christmas songs. I also played on the chimes, which I had no idea they were outdoors in the bell tower. Much to my surprise, when the organist came in and commented on my performance, which she heard across town on her way there. I was also surprised when I heard clapping after playing. (People were coming into the church while I was playing, and I did not know it, because the console was so big I could not see around it.) That was the only time I actually played a real pipe organ. I was so shocked, I snuck out the back door, in fear of embarrassment. Since then, I have not been able to find one nearby I could get access to. Our church sold the pipe organ and bought an electronic one. I do not like electronic ones, they sound like crap. But, I suppose they are good enough for singing hymns and such.

Artist History
While I was in the 4th grade at Walnut St. School in Brattleboro, VT I took lessons for trumpet. My instructor and band director, James Kurty, was a great teacher. Within a couple months I was able to play well enough to become the 1st Trumpet in the Brattleboro All School Elementary Band. We played as a concert band and a marching band. I played as 1st Trumpet in the band through the 7th grade at the Brattleboro Union Junior High School.
Our family moved to Guilford, VT in July 1977. So I attended the Guilford Central School for the 8th grade. The Guilford school had no real music program at that time, so I took private lessons with Bruce Corwin until the end of 8th grade.
I attended the Brattleboro Union High School for 9th and 10th grade. I auditioned for the B.U.H.S. band and was accepted as a 3rd Trumpet. Our band director, Robert Simonds, said I was so good that 3rd Trumpet was the most important part for me to play, because he thought the band needed a good solid 3rd part, which had more complex notation than 2nd and 1st parts
