Artist History
hey’re four sisters with the looks, talent and determination to go all the way…and then some. They’re a powerhouse musical family with years of experience backing up their seamless blend of soul, hip-hop and a distinctive sound completely their own. They’re a quartet of dynamic vocalists and songwriters who have inherited the sheer talent to make a song come alive, with sparkling harmonies and polished performances. They’re Cherish. Now, the potent and persuasive sound of Cherish comes alive with the twelve new tracks on The Moment, their dazzling debut album on Warner Bros. Records. Featuring selections from some of today’s top tunesmiths along with five tracks written by the foursome, The Moment is a tour de force of performing prowess by a family of sisters who have been making music their whole lives. The Moment mixes soul and sophistication, passion and professionalism, seamless harmonies and soaring solos, all anchored to a contemporary urban sound that takes its cue from Old School and picks up a whole new flavor of hip hop. Check out the sultry rap of the album’s opener “Miss P,” delivered with flava and attitude by platinum recording artist Da Brat, or the haunting imagery of “I Won’t Leave You,” and you’ll get a true taste of the rich variety that sets Cherish apart. It’s the same musical spectrum that ignites other key tracks on The Moment, from the majestic and moving “Voices Beyond,” to the sassy and scintillating “Stay With You.” Simply put, The Moment is an album that sets a new creative standard…and then exceeds it. Sixteen year-old twins Felicia and Fallon, along with older siblings, eighteen year-old Neosha and nineteen year-old Farrah, got their singing start at a very tender age indeed – seven for the twins, nine and eleven for Neosha and Farrah, respectively – when they first began singing in local talent contests in and around their native Atlanta, Georgia. Daughters of a professional musical father who had played guitar on stage for such groups as the Stylistics and the Chi-Lites, the foursome was actively encouraged by their mother who convinced her husband to begin tutoring the girls in the fundamentals of performing.
Very much a family affair, Cherish worked diligently with their parents to perfect their unique sound, eventually landing a regular slot at a hot Atlanta nightspot called Catfish Station where they earned an enthusiastic following. Even though they understood from the beginning that success wouldn’t come overnight, the quartet was surprised at how quickly their career skyrocketed, especially after a series of opening gigs for the Atlanta appearances of such established acts as the Bar-Kays, Patti LaBelle and Usher. The Moment includes a production from a team of top producers including super-producer Jermaine Dupri. In addition to writing some of their own material, former Xscape member Kandi Burruss (TLC, Destiny’s Child) co-wrote five tracks on the CD. “Our music is about telling the truth,” asserts Farrah. “We try to present life as it is, and at the same time bring some hope and optimism to the world.” It’s a point underscored by such Cherish originals as “Voices Beyond,” “Boyfriend” and “Thought I Told You.” “We sing about real situations,” Neosha continues, “about what kids today really feel, about love and romance and just getting by from day to day. We want people to be encouraged by what they hear in our music, to let them know that someone understands where they’re coming from.” “We grew up with Old School music,” says Felicia, before her twin sister chimes in. “But we also try to bring in what’s happening today.” It’s a blend soul and rhythm accentuated by silky smooth harmonies, soaring solos and savvy songwriting. Simply put, Cherish is a dynamic package of young talent with a very bright future indeed. Four sisters with one very compelling sound, Cherish is keeping it all in the family. |
