    Artist History
Joel Bowers is a jazz saxophonist whose soulful melodic style - adaptable to bebop, ballads, blues and boogaloo- and his warm identifiable tone make him an exciting new voice on the tenor saxophone. Joel, who has been playing saxophone since age nine, is unique among young saxophonists in that he has a very strong interest in older styles of jazz, from Lester Young through Stan Getz and Dexter Gordon. He has learned to play in the idiom of those players and has done so quite convincingly. Joel has personally studied under such recognized names as: Jimmy Guiffre, Plas Johnson, Jerry Bergonzi, George Garzone, John McNeil, and Joe Maneri. Joel has received numerous Music Scholarship Awards, Special Music Recognition Awards and Teaching Fellowships. Joel has played many varied venues across the nation from Boston to Los Angeles both as a leader and as a sideman. Joel has been a founding member of two recognized funk bands, the defunct Boston based ten piece funk orchestra The Daddy's and Colorado's number one party band Jive. He has also been a featured soloist or guest soloist with many established touring bands and legends of the jazz world including Fred Wesley, Melvin Sparks, Pete Escovedo, Leon Spencer, Clyde Stubblefield, Stanton Moore, Ron Miles, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Garage a Trois and Robert Walter's 20th Congress. He has supported Maceo Parker, Karl Denson, Leftover Salmon, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Project Logic, Particle, Wild Magnolias and Rebirth Brass Band among others. In October of 2002 Joel moved to Los Angeles and, in addition to performing/promoting and doing freelance studio work in the area, has recently produced a new CD entitled "JB and The Rebellion". The CD features many funky friends including Chris Stillwell (Greyboy Allstars, 20th Congress, KDTU), Chuck Prada (20th Congress, Black Eyed Peas, Beat Pharmacie), Mister !RouRKe (Soulive, Addison Groove Project, Fat Bag) and Robert Walter (Greyboy Allstars, 20th Congress).
