Artist description
World Mambo Mission plays Cuban son, Latin jazz classics, Brazilian sambas and bossa novas as well as original tunes. The Atlanta piano trio incorporates the danceability and complexity of Afro-Cuban and Brazilian rhythms within the tradition of straight-ahead jazz. World Mambo Mission performs weekly in Atlanta at Sambuca Jazz Cafe. The trio has just recorded and released a CD entitled World Mambo Mission. |

Artist History
Pianist Dan Furman grew up in Nashville, TN and went on to study composition and jazz piano at Oberlin Conservatory. Following school, he spent a year in South America studying Latin music and playing with bands in Lima, Perú. He moved to Atlanta in 1997 where he also writes and performs with Ficciones, a 5-piece Latin ensemble that focuses on original music. Bassist Jordan Dayan hails from Macon, GA and over his last 13 years in Atlanta has worked with some of the area's finest instrumentalists, including Danny Harper, eldest of the talented Harper brothers, the Johnny O'Neal Trio, the Ojeda Penn Trio, the Grant Reed Quintet as well as the legendary Walter Bishop, Jr. He performs weekly with the Jordan Dayan Trio. Drummer Omar Martinez is originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina. He studied percussion there as well as at Georgia State University and the Atlanta Institute of Music. He has toured and recorded with jazz and Latin bands in South America and the United States. In Atlanta, he also plays with Ficciones and teaches percussion at Mars Music. |
