Artist History
Quadraphonics(also known as the "q-crew")started out three years ago. 6 highschoolbuddies with different backgrounds wanted to create a band with a special concept that would somehow involve groove , funk & jazz. The first rehersals revealed an amazing chemistry and an aching will to get out and play. All the guys had somekind of musical education, so they knew what they where doing and where they wanted to go.Quadraphonics started playing local gigs, and achieved a great reputation in a short period of time. Q-crew attended in 96,a competion for best live-band, and won.Norway was slowly getting their eyes up for the 6 guys from Stavanger and wanted to hear more. The press started showing interest and a "buzz" was growing. At this point Quadraphonics`music was categorized as "The Sunshine-Groove", a description the band was very comfortable with. The big break came in summer 97. After putting demo music out on internet the Q-crew was invited to play JVC Jazz Festival in Toronto( then known as "State of Mind"). The guys played at "lee`s palace" and did an amazing job. The Canadian press named the group "Norways nr 1 Funkateers". The band was at this time also asked to do a recording- session in Victory Drive Studio in Toronto for a local label, Cream rec. Q-crew stayed for two weeks and did eleven songs which at that time turned out ok.It was when the band returned to Norway that the recordcompanies lined up. After a showcase for EMI, Sony, Warner and so on, Quadraphonics chose to sign a deal with Virgin, which bought out the Torontotapes.Half a year later the first Quadraphonics release for airplay came, the single "Hocus Pocus". The radios found this thing very interesting and couldn`t wait for another release. The band did alot of TV appearances, and the responce was amazing. The next airplay-single "anytime" was released in spring 98 and became a big hit. It topped the radiocharts and stayed there during the summer. Because of the single-succsess the band did a fair amount of gigs, so Quadraphonics got on the road, and had Norway Spellbound in a couple of months.September 20 Quadraphonics went to USA and had the pleasure of playing with Dj Jazzy Jeff. The guys had the time of their lives. Two amazing weeks in Philly making magic in "A touch Of Jazz" studios. After visiting the states, Quadraphonics came home to Norway with an amazing musical product in their pockets. The band soon discovered that their relationship with Virgin Records Norway did not work out. As a result, Quadraphonics chose to end the contract. The band has been independent for quite some time, recording and producing their own stuff, mostly demos. The band still has a muscial relationship with Dj Jazzy Jeff and his crew in Philadelphia as well as a management in LA, RhythmJazz Management.Quadraphonics are ready to share their "Sunshine-Groove" with the world, and when the time is right a Quadra-spell will be casted and the world will freak out!!! |
