    Artist History
Jambox was formed in the summer of 1976, by Professor Lobotomy (guitar) and Slash Brannon (violin). They lived in a tenement built in the 1860's next to a major interstate highway, surrounded by a crumbling neighborhood , shared by a half-dozen likewise enthusiastic castoffs of a society that hated and feared them. Their efforts were soon underscored by the stylings of Rico De Bool (bass), and the addition of keyboardist Fo Jammi, ( on drums). They practiced night and day for years. They were on a first-name basis with St. Louis' finest. They narrowly missed being blown into the stratosphere by insurance-fraud arson perpetrated on a roofing yard that was their practice space. They moved often. In 1979 they added 3 female backup singers to their live show: Annie Byrne, Jozie Christen, and Sue Leonard, collectively, The Changels. Annie, the most serious of the three, backed out of the group shortly before the band recorded a 4 song EP in a freaky joint on 39th Street., and was replaced by Tammy "Jambait" Whynot. Although the band had a growing following, few venues would admit them more than once. Their stage show bordered on mass insanity and was often dangerous. Professor Lobotomy was the first to leave, embracing the cooler punk/surf sound of The Obvious. Fo Jammi moved on to Earwacks/Wax Theatricks, Rico De Bool entered the armed forces and Slash labored on for years in the spawn of Jambox: Jamchild.
