Press Reviews
From the cold Swedish lands here it comes the nth Heavy metal band: this time it is a new band, Eternia, dedicated to the classic and traditional sounds: their melodic strong power metal finds natural references in the connational Hammerfall and Nocturnal Rites, or Helloween and Gamma Ray just to mention two German examples. As a whole "The Guardian of the Treasure" is undoubtedly a likeable and convincing debut, that succeeds in replacing the usual lack of originality that necessarily affects those who deal with such an abused genre with an excellent instrumental performance and a pretty production. The five tracks, written and recorded between 1998 and 1999 flows as smooth as oil, without any excessive mood change nor in a sense or in the opposite one, remarking a certain mastery of the song shape that can only make us hope the best for their artistical future, obviously only if they will decide to risk a bit more and to give a more personal touch to their compositions. Well, the qualities to excite the interest of the eager legions of defenders are there, for their good we can only hope that the signs of near decadence of the traditional heavy metal scene won't become true, on the contrary they'll risk not to have got there in due course./ 7/10 points, Review taken from Silent scream webzine.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------When the artwork includes castles, hourglasses and dragons among other things, you know you can expect European styled power metal- lots of happy melodies, chugging double bass and epic storytellinglyrics. Sweden's ETERNIA have put out a 5 song debut CD, recorded in 2 parts with the first 3 songs recordedin September 1999 and the latter 2 recorded a year earlier. Pluses for the quintet include a stellar guitar tandemin Ronny Blylod and Daniel Niemann- contributing great twin licks that close “Soldiers of the Night”.The most impressive song on display “The Eye of the Storm” opens with a riff that could be a distant cousin to“Wasted Years” but quickly rips into a savage power riff that would make Kai Hansen or Randy Rhoads beam.Singer Mats Dahlbery has a smooth mid-range voice that could use a little more strength to match the qualityput forth musically from his band mates- the title track showcasing his potential best. The band need to spendmore money next time in a better production- as the rhythm sections doesn't get the best sounds in the mix- butit doesn't sound so poor as to deter your enjoyment. Potential for the future is evident in ETERNIA- oncethey step away from their MAIDEN/ HELLOWEEN influences and gel they should gain a dealbecause they play convincingly from their souls./Review taken from Snakepit zine.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This band tries to conquer the world from Sweden. Eternia is a true metal band and this five song CD is asfar as I know, their debut. The CD kicks off with "Soldiers Of The Night", a typical heavy metal song withlots of melody and they obviously listened to bands like Helloween or the more recent metal kings Hammerfall. With the second song "The Eye Of The Storm" things start to look better, the song is very dynamic the riffingsounds more convincing and it is overall a better song. The title track of this mini CD is a more epic song, which sounds excellent to my ears. The two other songs on this CD "As I Fall" and the ballad "Goodbye"are the two best songs on this CD. "As I Fall" has a catchy rhythm and you automatically start to tap your feetand nod your head along with the song. "Goodbye" is build out of all the ballad cliché's you can dream of but itstill sounds excellent. To sum things up we can say that Eternia is a band with a lot of potential andI wouldn't mind hearing more of their work./ 8/10 points, Review taken from Undertow webzine. |
