Artist History Devitt Elverson is a songwriter/multi instrumentalist who lives in New York City.Elverson, who hales from Texas, first became interested in playing music when his older sister returned from summer camp with a baritone ukele. He immediately began learning chords and tunes.Greatly taken with the first british invasion, within six months he had turned his attention to the guitar.He first began to honw his skills on a twelve dollar mexican guitar which he bought on a family trip to mexico.By junior high school, Elverson had graduated to the electric guitar and began to play in bands.He fist seriously set his mind to musical composition when he co-authored and co-produced a rock opera "Revelation".Elverson continued to play in bands in Texas and Rhode Island until he completed medical school and moved to New York City to pursue his training as a psychiatrist and to try his hand at music in the Big Apple.The Eighties found Elverson forming various bands that performed his original compositions in such venues as CBGB's and The Bitter End. During this period he was successful in getting on of his songs published. Throughout the Nineties, Elverson has continued to write and record numerous songs and has learned to play numerous stringed instruments ranging from the tripple, the cavaquinho to the mandolin and the bajo sexto.Elverson is a multilingual and his interest in different cultures and a variety of diverse musical genres is reflected in his compositions and his arrangements. Elverson brings to his lyrics his unique perspectives on life that he has garnered through years of work in the emergency rooms and psychiatric hsopitals of New York City and through his extensive travel and probong into different cultures.
