Musical Influences MJ, Whitney, Stevie Wonder...

Artist History LaRee and music have been synonymous from birth. Growing up in The Bronx, she was the youngest member in her family’s singing group. She played the flute and percussion instruments. This was her introduction into the world of music. A world which would beckon her, relentlessly. During her teen years, she continued her quest in pursuit of what she knew would be her destiny, by showcasing her vocal abilities in talent shows, and musicals. Influenced by the success of teenaged groups she formed a five member girl group in high school called ‘Sweet Innocence‘. This venture later evolved into a duo and then finally a solo act, which would be the basis for her future. Intrigued by the Arts and always looking for ways to improve herself, LaRee entered into the 1999 New York IMTA (International Modeling and Talent Association) talent showcase, which was held at the Hilton Hotel in Manhattan. She gained 1st place honors in the Sitcom, Drama, Monologue and Singing categories. She placed 2nd overall in the voting for Talent of the Year, out of approx 4000 contestants from across the country. As a result of this accomplishment she caught the eye of various agents in the field of Acting, Modeling and Voice-Overs. For two years, thereafter she was managed by Shirley Grant Acting & Modeling Agency NJ. Her credits include appearances in commercials for Footlocker, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, The Army National Guard and KFC. She also acted in Off-Broadway Plays and appeared in Commercial Print. Even though she was now involved in the Arts, in some respect, her thirst was not quenched. She longed to pursue her first love, music. In January 2001 LaRee returned to the studio with a maturity and readiness, determined to satisfy her innermost desire. She knew that this project had to properly represent her musical prowess. It had to come from her heart. Time was not a factor, just the production of music that was satisfying to her. To quote her ‘Nothing gimmicky... just honest music.’ Her commitment was satisfied by the offerings in her demo package titled ‘Identify’. LaRee’s musical influences include Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder and Gladys Knight. This amalgamation of great artists has not only inspired LaRee, but has assisted, in the honing of her unique sense of depth and vocal roundedness. This is only the beginning....... ?
