Artist History After picking up a guitar at 13 years old, Howard McLaughlin's first band was the Luv Generation in south Texas. His early influences included Hendrix, Clapton, and Beck. For 5 years, he traveled the commercial circuit, playing Holiday Inns. After a few years with funk bands, he worked with and recorded with country bands for 10 years, including Billy Jack Collard and Freddie Fender. Howard latched onto Texas blues in the early 80s, and has not looked back. He has played with Chris Layton, Tommy Shannon, Doyle Bramhall, Ray McCarty, Joe Sublett (who played sax with Delbert McClinton and Jimmie Vaughan), David Pollard (who played keyboards and sax with Edgar Winter), John Smith (who played sax with Albert Collins, Edgar Winter, and Jerry LaCroix), and Howard's cousin Joel Nava (national Latin musician). He has also jammed with several Austin blues artists including Bobby Mack and Night Train, Ted Roddy, Sid Sanchez, Rob Roy Parnell (harmonica). He enjoyed a successful stint with Colin Jones and the FatTones in Austin. He has played extensively in the Dallas area, including a stint with the Smokin' Joe Kubek Band, and played the Chicago blues cruise four years. Some of his many bands include Strictly Jive, the Alleycats, Crawdaddy. He has finished his third recording session with his present band. He has played the blues in the Coastal Bend of south Texas for the last 15 years, 4 to 5 nights a week. Howard attributes his strong vocals and guitar to hard work and listening to the greats such as Marvin Gaye, Albert King, Buddy Guy, Albert Collins, Freddie King, Bobby Bland, Otis Rush, and several other incredible artists.
